1969 PORSCHE 911

This unique early example of the all-time classic sportscar is presented in fully restored condition. An original UK RHD car specified by the first owner with the rare and expensive option of the semi-automatic Sportomatic transmission. With a conventional 4-speed synchromesh gearbox in series with a torque converter and a normal clutch operated by a vacuum-controlled lever it resulted in much smoother gear changes for most drivers. Sportomatics were produced in very limited numbers and UK records suggest that only 192 were imported into the UK between 1968-72, with only 5 registered in 1969. Many were converted to manual, making any remaining cars even more desirable and collectible.

A matching numbers vehicle with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity on file, it is from the 1969 ‘crossover’ between long and short wheelbase cars, resulting in it having improved handling as a result of the increased wheelbase and new weight-saving magnesium engine crankcase, whilst retaining the more desirable aesthetics of the earlier cars.

Originally in Olive paintwork, it was switched to Slate Grey (6801) upon bare metal restoration of the body. The 2.0 flat six engine as well as the gearbox were both carefully rebuilt, having been stripped, checked and parts replaced where necessary – synchros, valves, pistons, cylinders, gaskets, bearings and seals etc. The original Weber carburettors were completely rebuilt with new jets, gaskets and float valves. The whole suspension and brakes were completely stripped, overhauled and replaced as required as well as the entire brake system including a new master cylinder. The interior was upgraded beyond 1969 specification – the original seats were disassembled and overhauled in every way including retrim in Connolly hide and interior door handles reinterpreted in the style of Hermes travel luggage, giving both a sympathetic as well as individual finish. Artisan craftsmanship was also employed to produce unique lightweight door pulls and door release mechanism.

In-Car Entertainment is now upgraded to a high-quality Bluetooth system which is both Apple and Android compatible with uprated speakers discretely placed behind laser cut Connolly leather within the door cards. The dashboard has been reconfigured and covered entirely in Connolly leather, removing the glovebox, ashtray and radio. Classic green dials have been installed having been restored and a bespoke Mota Lita steering wheel completes the aesthetic.

There has been a recent overhaul of the gearbox and new set of tyres, Fuch wheels & Centre Caps fitted.

First registered in April 1969 to prominent solicitor Derek Clogg, famous for his involvement in the Profumo affair and remained in his family ownership up until 2003, having been handed down to his daughter upon his passing in 1986. It was then under ownership by the restorers The Whisperer 911 Ltd, who kept it in dry storage awaiting restoration and passed to the next owner in 2014 who then engaged Whisperer 911 Ltd to fully restore the vehicle in June 2017. There is a written agreement covering the terms of the restoration as well as a full colour dossier of the car with its history and background compiled after completion of the restoration. Ownership then passed to a relative in 2018 and subsequently to the current owner in 2021.

A faultless example of this popular classic Porsche, complete with original wallet, books & Sportomatic brochure as well as V5 and both sets of keys. Speedo now showing 1,272 miles having had an MOT recoding 973 miles at last change of keeper back in June 2021.
