Description
This GTD40 started life in 1989. Known to the GTD40 club throughout its life, from its early days of club track days, hill climbs and sprints, to the more coveted ownership in recent years.
This car has been developed by Frank Catt of Wealden Engineering. Frank’s passion, knowledge and experience in developing these cars into serious weapons is second to none. He has personally specialised in the development and modification of these cars for over 25 years, and without a doubt produces the best and most sorted examples available.
The engine is a 302CI marine block, which was fully built by Julian Godfrey included TWR pistons, SVO con-rods, Edelbrook performer RPM camshaft, high volume oil pump, Canton racing sump with motorsport baffles and a Mallory electronic distributor. Paired to a fabulous set of 44 10A Webber carburettors, this car is said to give a conservative 420 BHP with oodles of torque, which when shoehorned into approximately 1100kg is purposeful whether on road or track. The engine has recently had a top end refresh.
The gearbox has been recently fully rebuilt, and includes upgraded internals, a Quaife LSD unit and AP racing padel clutch. The gear set is bespoke and gives a top speed of around 171 MPH at 6,000 rpm.
The suspension has been continuously developed and redesigned by Frank to keep this car up to date with the latest technology. This is where Frank really gets into his stride. Bespoke solid nylon sleeved bushes everywhere (handmade by his neighbouring engineering company), reengineered rear link mounts, and a steering rack that has been raised by 7/16” to reduce bump steer are just a few of the tricks used to set this GTD40 apart from the crowd. Combine this with two-way adjustable Koni race dampers with bespoke spring rates, and you have something that handles as well as it looks.
There is a huge ring binder leather folder with every MOT, service invoice and build invoice from when the car was first conceived, along with an A3 book (yes a book) detailing the car’s history from new, including its race results, development and ownership changes. The above are just the headlines, there is so much to learn about this car.
Put this all together and you end up with one of the most well-sorted GT40 replica’s in the country.
The one you’ve been waiting for.
