Description
Ordered by Maranello Concessionaires for October 1979 production (order S/140), this being a 1980-model 308 GTS, identifiable by such items as a cigar, rather than cigarette lighter, thicker-rim Nardi split-spoke wheel and hydraulic engine-cover struts. Finished in Rosso Corsa with crema hide and beige carpets, it is one of just 186 UK-supplied cars (107 known to survive; 87 in red). Delivered new to Egham, it was sold to then Ferrari agents Huxford Group of Fareham and first registered *** ** on 18 October 1979.
Factory options included air-conditioning, 7.5-inch wheels with front spoiler, and front fogs (now removed). The first private owner acquired it in March 1980, with servicing handled by Huxford’s and later Emblem Sports Cars. In 1989, Emblem’s owner bought the car himself and commissioned a major £21k refurbishment, including mechanicals, bodywork and new black Connolly trim.
After moving to Scotland, the car saw little use and was eventually sold in July 1999 with 46,774 miles. It changed hands again in 2005 and in 2012 received suspension and brake overhauls and a £10,200 bare-metal respray confirming the chassis to be rust-free.
From 2014 the car lived in Surrey, purchased via Silverstone Auctions with 48,516 miles. Specialist inspections and extensive early servicing followed (£20k+), including belts, valve adjustment, suspension and braking work. Later maintenance by Rardley included annual services, new tyres, a gearbox/diff overhaul and an air-conditioning rebuild.
The most recent owner acquired it in March 2022 with 49,577 miles.
