1979 FORD ESCORT

A very smart and enthusiast-owned Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Base, offered in highly appealing Venetian Red and presenting as a well cared for, honest example that blends period correctness with subtle usability upgrades. True to Base specification, the car retains non-tinted glass and the correct body-coloured rear panel, giving it the clean, purposeful look that many consider the most authentic RS2000 configuration.

The car sits well and presents strongly. There are a handful of minor age-related imperfections, but overall the Escort remains bright, straight and very presentable, supported by a notably tidy engine bay that stands up well to closer inspection.

Inside, the original black Base interior has been well preserved and retains the correct white headlining. The seats remain in good condition for their age, and fishnet headrests have been added, enhancing the classic RS feel without detracting from originality. The dashboard and instrumentation are clear and functional, a period radio cassette is fitted, and the original three-spoke steering wheel remains in place with its desirable Ford centre boss.

Under the bonnet sits the familiar 1993cc SOHC engine, upgraded with twin Weber 45 carburettors and a stainless exhaust, giving the car a crisp, characterful drive. A Type 9 five-speed gearbox conversion has been professionally fitted, making the car far more usable on modern roads while retaining the engagement expected of a Mk2 RS.

The Escort rides on Ronal-style 13-inch alloy wheels with Yokohama tyres. Supplied new in June 1979 by Ford Rallye Sport Dealer Mike Youngs of Ilford, the car has had seven former keepers and is accompanied by a solid history file containing invoices and MOT certificates.
