1996 LAND ROVER DEFENDER

motodrome offer this rather superb, high spec 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 300TDi County Station Wagon 6 seater.

This one is a genuine factory County Station Wagon, not a conversion from a van or pickup.

In 2020, it underwent a significant rebuild onto a new Shielder Galvanised Chassis, At the same time a fully reconditioned 300TDi engine was fitted, and it was repainted in the original colour, and it’s covered around 14000m since.

Spec-wise, it’s pretty comprehensive.

Externally, it’s fitted with front A bar, LED lights all round (inc headlights with DRL’s), steering guard, heavy duty steering arms, chequerplate to wing tops and rear quarters, snorkel, front towing bracket, snow cowls, a matching set of 4 Maxxis 771 all-terrain tyres on the correct original alloys, Dirt Defender wheelarch shields, full – length sidesteps, mudflaps all round, integrated heavy-duty rear step, swingaway spare wheel carrier, rear worklights, anti-theft hinge protectors, and zinc/stainess steel fittings throughout.

Internally, being a genuine CSW it’s fully trimmed and has a sunroof, , but with the addition of a new black Alcantara headlining, full carpeting, high-back front seats with waterproof seat covers, centre cubby box, leather gear lever gaiters, sports steering wheel, and decent Pioneer stereo system.

In the rear, the original 4 folding seats are still in place, all fitted with seat belts, and the rear door has a hydraulic ram.

So, if you’re looking for a Defender that you can buy almost every accessory for, this one probably isn’t for you, as almost everything you’d want to add has already been done..

Comes with a massive history file including the original service book and book pack, bills to pretty much day one, and MOT’s back to 1999.

Being a factory 300TDi version, it nips along nicely with good punch from the Turbodiesel motor.

On test on arrival it performed without apparent fault – it’s refreshing to find a 300TDi that doesn’t feel it’s age on the road, doubtless aided by the relatively fresh rebuild and engine rebuild.

All in all, it’s a) one of the nicest 300TDi’s I’ve ever seen, and b) a very practical, smart, traditional Defender with none of the bells and whistles or bling of later models, but with totally simple mechanics and no electronics to go wrong.
