In 2005, Lotus announced it would be launching the first track-ready versions of the S2 Exige in the 190 and Cup 240. Picked from the regular production line and hand built by the Motorsport Division, the 240 was the first model to be fitted with a supercharger and the huge standard specification included traction control, twin oil coolers, Accusump system, Torsen LSD, heavy duty clutch, Ohlins adjustable dampers, AP Racing brakes and lightweight wheels. The model also came available in ‘Road’ or ‘Race’ specification, which was denoted by the no-cost options of an FIA approved six-point roll cage, mechanical ignition kill switch (Internal and external) as well as electrical fire extinguisher system (internal and external). Air conditioning, was not an option in Race mode according to Lotus sales literature of the time. These models are highly focused performance cars that helped establish Lotus’ modern reputation in road-legal track cars and was the first of the official ‘Cup’ car that set the president for other icons later down the line. According to DVLA records, just 27 Cup 240 models were registered in the UK from new making this an incredibly rare car, as Race models were often converted into full circuit racing cars.
On January 1st 2006, the first owner of this Cup 240 selected Race trim with an RRP of £45,995.00 but added the Storm Titanium metallic paint, which was a £405.00 optional extra. The car passed through six previous owners (I HAVE OWNED IT 3 TIMES), all cared for it and recognised its rarity, as displayed by the service history record and huge amount of paperwork and provenance that accompanies the car. Included in the large history file are the original service books, supplementary service manual from Lotus Sport, additional literature and dealer brochures from the time, as well as a stamped Maintenance Record book displaying 14 services. There’s also every invoice for the car from tyres to geometry checks, as well as other related paperwork including every MOT certificate.
The previous owner acquired the car in August 2018 and after its service in October 2018 chose to display it in a collection. It was kept on trickle charge and regularly started until it was decided to professionally recommission and MOT the car in October 2023 where it passed with no advisories.
Having covered just 20,500 miles the car is in very good overall condition, with only minor stone chip markings to the front. All four wheels are in great condition and fitted with Toyo R888 tyres.
This very rare car is unlike anything else available and is ready to use or be stored away in another cherished collection.
Its currently wearing a set of black Forged 250 Cup Wheels which are available for an additional £1500. The car will be fitted with the standard wheels shown in the advert when sold unless the additional wheels are purchased and the tyres will be swapped over (only one set of tyres are with the car)
