Overview

 It may have begun life as a slightly more practical and car-like alternative to a Land Rover, but with each successive generation the Range Rover has evolved into one of the most desirable and luxurious vehicles in the world.

Nowhere is that more evident than in the latest generation – the L460 – which came along in 2022. It’s a car dripping with luxury and prestige, yet still as capable off-road as it is on it – after all, that’s the very essence of the Land Rover brand.

This one is the entry-level engine in SE trim – but such things are relative. In 2023, it was sold for £121,000, which is quite a stepping stone into the flagship of the Range Rover brand, and as such it’s as luxurious, sophisticated and technologically advanced as you could possibly hope. There’s no such thing as basic where a Range Rover is concerned.

Stacked with technology and plush materials, from the rich Bridge of Weir hide to the natural walnut veneers, it’s a sensational vehicle in which to sit.

In D350 form, as seen here, it uses a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with mild-hybrid assistance, delivering a far-from modest 355bhp, fed to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. It’s not the fastest L460, but it’s definitely not a slouch – 0-60mph is dispatched in 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 146mph. Not bad for a vehicle weighing close to three tonnes. 

 Yet, despite these impressive figures, the L460 is remarkably composed and easy to drive. Adaptive Dynamics and advanced air suspension combine to keep things in check – it handles with surprising agility and the ride quality is superb. And if you feel like getting it dirty, the Terrain Response system is nothing short of astonishing. If you own a modern Range Rover, you should try it off road just once, simply so you can see what it’s capable of.

According to the vendor, though, this one has never got its tyres dirty. It’s been cherished since they bought the car in 2023, when it was less than a year old, and has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s schedule, used only for day-to-day transport, and by the vendor’s insistence, always kept fastidiously clean. You can tell, too, as there are barely any signs of wear. 

It’s a truly lovely machine, presented in stunning overall condition and with an astonishing list of standard specification.
