The 2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Carbon Edition — often referred to as the Carbon Black version — is one of the purest expressions of Aston Martin’s sporting ethos from the era when naturally aspirated V12-powered grand tourers were king.
Shoehorning Aston’s biggest engine in its smallest offering was a hot rod recipe for an intoxicating blend of sports car, supercar and GT, that neither Porsche nor Ferrari could best.
With a more menacing silhouette than the standard V12 Vantage and finished in a deep bespoke Carbon Black metallic paint – applied by hand over more than 50 hours – the car’s presence is authoritative and understated. Inside, obsidian black leather and the optional lightweight carbon-fibre/Kevlar seats reinforce the special-edition feel in this example.
Up front is a 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510 bhp, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential delivering 0–62 mph in 4.2 s and a top speed: of 190 mph. The wide, flat torque delivery and high-revving nature of the V12 deliver thrust that feels both effortless and urgent.
Handling balances classic grand tourer poise with genuine sports car agility. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, offering immense fade-free stopping power and reducing unsprung mass for sharper responses.
Driving the Carbon Edition is as much about sensation as it is about speed. The V12’s soundtrack – a rich, mechanical growl that blossoms into a haunting howl as revs climb – is frequently cited as one of the car’s most intoxicating attributes.
Behind the wheel, the manual gearbox is a statement of intent. Its engaging shifts and the tactile connection to the drivetrain make every movement feel purposeful and hugely appealing as an analogue enthusiast’s car in an increasingly electronic world.
Not officially numbered, the Carbon Black V12 Vantage was nevertheless limited in availability — typically one per dealer, making it a rare sight both then and now.
