The Mercedes-Benz W100 600 Pullman Landaulet
produced from 1963 to 1981 in only 59 examples, is an automotive masterpiece and the spearhead of the W100 series, combining innovative technology with luxurious equipment and timeless design. This rare car became an icon of automotive extravagance. In contrast to the classic saloon and the Pullman version of the W100 series, the Landaulet impresses with its unique appearance. The retractable roof at the rear allowed passengers to present themselves in an open-top vehicle for festive occasions, making it particularly popular with heads of state and celebrities. Famous owners have included Pope Paul VI, Leonid Brezhnev and Ferdinand Marcos. The interior of the Landaulet offers unrivalled comfort and maximum exclusivity. Fine materials such as the finest leather and flawless wood characterise the luxurious atmosphere. Individual customisation options meet the highest demands. In addition, the interior is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a complex hydraulic system that controls functions such as seat adjustment, window lifters and suspension, thus guaranteeing maximum comfort. The hydraulic system is a remarkable technical innovation that generates 150 bar of pressure and controls 15 different functions in the vehicle. The Landaulet is powered by a powerful, specially developed 6.3-litre V8 engine with 250 hp. This ensures superior driving characteristics and effortless acceleration. The engine's power enables a top speed of around 205 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 9.7 seconds - impressive figures for a vehicle of this size and class. The 4-speed automatic gearbox, which is fitted as standard, also contributes to the impressive driving performance. With a development price of almost 100 million marks, the ‘big Mercedes’ was unaffordable for most people. Its buyers were therefore primarily heads of state, diplomats, industrialists and other wealthy personalities. The high price and exclusivity contributed significantly to the rarity surrounding the Landaulet. Production of the W100 series totalled around 2,677 vehicles, of which the Landaulet was the most exclusive and rarest variant.
About the vehicle offered here
As can be seen from the production order dated 22 September 1977, this example was built for the President of Togo ‘Gnassingbé Eyadéma’, who ruled the country from 1967 to 2005. Built in 1977 and first registered in 1978, the Pullman is one of 59 open-top Landaulets ever built, of which only 32 were four-door models. According to the data card, the W100 was originally delivered with black paintwork and grey leather, as well as anthracite-coloured Verlour carpet. During a previous restoration, the colour was retained true to the original, while the interior was replaced by stylish red leather and carpet. As part of our purchase in 2021, €30,000 was invested in spare parts only. On 11 February 2021, Classic Data issued an expert opinion, which gave the 600 a grade of 1. Since then, the vehicle has been stored untouched as part of the mechatronics collection. Even half a century after its completion, this example still has its original engine, as well as its original gearbox. Our sales staff will be happy to answer any detailed questions you may have. Please note that vehicle viewings are only possible by prior appointment. Below you will find the equipment list of the vehicle offered here.
