Description
Designed by the talented Marcello Gandini, this was Bertone's first project for Maserati. The model featured a distinctive, clear rear section housing the taillights and a sharp, angular design that contrasted with its predecessor. A total of 430 Khamsin units were produced, including 71 right-hand-drive examples. This example also features the ultra-rare optional Borg Warner automatic transmission.
Continuing Maserati’s tradition of wind-inspired names, the Khamsin was named after the hot Sahara Desert wind. This naming convention reflected the brand’s reputation for producing vehicles that performed strongly in contemporary road tests.
The Khamsin’s mechanical specifications closely resembled those of the Ghibli, featuring a 320 hp, 4,930 cc DOHC V-8 engine. This powerful engine enabled a top speed of 270 km/h. Distinctive features included unitized body construction instead of a tubular chassis and, for the first time on a front-engine Maserati, fully independent suspension. Citroën’s hydraulic technology powered the brakes, steering, and the concealed headlamp mechanism, enhancing the vehicle’s refinement.
This HK registered exmaple has been completely restored and is in superb condition throughout. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind classic Maserati to join your collection, please contact us immediately.
