Description

Few shapes in automotive history are as instantly recognisable, nor as culturally significant, as the Ford GT40. Born from rivalry, honed by determination and immortalised through outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GT40 remains one of the most important competition cars ever created.
Hilton & Moss are proud to present this exceptional example, built by Taylor Automotive Design and widely regarded as the most authentic and meticulously engineered continuation of the legendary original.
Crafted with uncompromising attention to detail, this GT40 is constructed around a correct-spec monocoque chassis, faithfully mirroring the architecture of the 1960s works cars. Panel fit, proportions and stance are executed with absolute precision, resulting in a silhouette that is visually indistinguishable from the period racers that dominated endurance racing’s golden era.
Power comes from a charismatic and properly specified Ford V8, delivering the raw, mechanical theatre that defines the GT40 experience. The soundtrack alone (a hard-edged, thunderous crescendo through the rev range) transports you instantly to the Mulsanne Straight. Mated to a period-correct manual gearbox, the driving experience is visceral, analogue and entirely immersive.
The cabin is purposefully sparce, trimmed and detailed in keeping with the original competition ethos. Toggle switches, riveted panels and deep-set dials create an atmosphere that feels authentic rather than interpretive. Every control has weight and intention, every journey feels like an event.
What sets the CAV GT40 apart is the obsessive commitment to engineering integrity. This is not a replica in spirit, but a painstaking recreation built with a level of craftsmanship that has earned global respect amongst collectors and historic racers alike. The result is a car that delivers the aesthetic, dynamic and emotional authenticity of the original, yet benefits from the usability and reliability expected of a modern build.
This particular 2021 example presents in superb condition, having been maintained with care and used sparingly, having covered just under 1,000 miles. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest GT40 recreations available. A machine that captures the drama and significance of the original, while offering an ownership experience that is both thrilling and reassuring.
First registered in May 2021, having been subject to the thorough IVA process, the car is now completely road-legal, but of course remains a highly capable vehicle for any track use, allowing the driver to make the most of the 500hp produced by the Bennett Race engine. The engine is fed by period correct Weber 48 IDA carburettors on an FAV inlet manifold, just as the original GT40. Power is driven with through the Quaife ZFQ 5-speed gearbox. A full vehicle specification can be supplied upon request.
Finished in the elegant and complementary shade of Ecurie Ecosse Blue, the cars presence dominates without trying. High-quality fibreglass body panels are fitted with precision. The quality continues into the interior, with lightweight Tillet seats and harnesses, Smiths GT40 instruments and a right-handed gear change as per the original GT40, unique to a CAV build.
Having been inspected, serviced and prepared for sale by Hilton & Moss, this wonderful machine is ready to be enjoyed immediately by its next discerning custodian.
A true icon, reimagined with integrity and utmost quality. Available now, exclusively at Hilton & Moss.
