Overview
Arguably the most accomplished hot hatch ever to wear the famous badge, the third-generation Mini John Cooper Works is a seriously capable thing. Powered by the BMW B48 2.0-litre turbocharged engine (the same proven unit found across BMW's own model range), the B48 is BMW's modular four-cylinder turbo unit and in JCW trim it delivers 231 bhp and 236 lb ft of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox, sprinting to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds. The B48 brought with it a fat wodge of low-rpm torque and a sturdy, reliable reputation that makes it an appealing base for further development. Combined with the JCW's uprated suspension, red "Works" brake calipers and electronic Performance Control differential, the F56 JCW offers a compelling blend of accessible performance and genuine dynamic ability straight from the factory.
But some cars are simply crying out for a little more. And this particular 2016 JCW has received exactly that, with a carefully curated selection of enhancements that elevate the driving experience without compromising the B48's inherent reliability.
The headline modification is a documented Stage II calibration from Mulgari, a respected specialist in F56 JCW performance development. This upgrade delivers an increase of approximately 40 bhp and 80 Nm of torque, with the power delivery said to be more linear and progressive. The supporting hardware includes a Milltek exhaust system and a K&N performance air filter, ensuring the engine breathes and exhales as freely as the software demands.
The attention hasn't stopped at the engine. A front strut brace visible through the lower grille tightens the front end's responses, while Sparco alloy wheels add visual aggression. Inside and out, extensive carbon fibre detailing transforms the ambience with an aftermarket carbon fibre steering wheel with Union Jack centre badge and red 12 o'clock marker, carbon trim panels around the climate controls, and carbon-effect exterior accents on the A-pillars and rear diffuser. Finished in metallic black with a black roof and blue highlights on the front wings, Union Jack LED tail lights and LED headlights with halo daytime running lights, it's a well-specified example that's really looks the part.
The XL Media Pack brings the larger infotainment display with its characteristic ambient LED ring, while front heated seats, genuine Mini all-weather mats and a quilted boot liner speak to practical daily use. The car starts and drives as it should, delivering on the promise of its upgrades, though the next owner may need to take care of a few items before enjoying it to the full. Once sorted, however, this looks to be a great package.

Summary
If you’re looking for a tuned Mini then this car presents you with the opportunity to skip the build process and inherit the results. This F56 JCW has been developed with intent, and the Mulgari Stage 2 tune, Milltek exhaust and supporting hardware are a top quality combination. The comprehensive carbon fibre detailing inside and out gives it a visual identity all its own, while the proven B48 engine and six-speed manual gearbox provide solid foundations underneath.
True, it will need a little attention: a service, the brakes, the shock absorbers (which are included), and a few cosmetic touches but these are known quantities, honestly disclosed. What you're inheriting is everything that matters: a JCW that pulls harder, sounds better and looks sharper than it did leaving the factory.
