Overview

The Caterham Seven is perhaps the perfect distillation of a “driver's car”. Lightweight, fast and with go-kart-like handling, anything superfluous to the pure act of driving has been stripped away, leaving just the unadulterated necessities required to enjoy oneself behind the wheel. You don't buy a Caterham Seven because of a plush interior, good fuel economy or to take your kids to school (although if you did you would no doubt instantly achieve hero status in the eyes of said child). No. You buy a Caterham Seven for the joy of the drive. To feel as connected to the tarmac via four wheels and a steering wheel as it's arguably possible to feel, whether that be on a twisty B-road or at Castle Combe.

Although refined for over fifty years the basic premise of the Caterham Seven has remained during all that time and as far as affordable sports cars go it's still very much the pick of the bunch for many, defining what a two-seater, super lightweight and focused weapon is. Pick any random track day on any given weekend and there will no doubt be at least a couple of Sevens tearing up the circuit, their drivers' beaming grins only barely hidden behind their helmets.

One of the great things about the Caterham Seven is its versatility and there's practically a model and spec for every budget that you can either build yourself or buy pre-assembled from the factory. From entry level motorcycle-engined builds to full on race-spec Caterham Academy cars the world is your oyster when it comes to picking the right spec for your requirements.

Sitting somewhere in the midst of those two extreme examples above is this 1997 matching numbers Super Seven 1600 Sprint. With meticulously catalogued hand-written service records backing up the car's incredibly low mileage of just under 13K this Seven presents in superb condition throughout. With a recent professional respray and paint protection, as well as refurbished wheels the car looks arguably better than it did when it was originally built and is reportedly driving fantastically.

Clearly cherished and beautifully maintained the current owner has installed a few useful upgrades to the interior, including a USB power socket and a GPS digital Speedo for enhanced accuracy and the car is now ready and waiting for its next lucky custodian.

As a car without fuel injection or electronic or computer-controlled support, this is about as analogue as it gets so if you're looking for a pure, unfiltered adrenaline rush then look no further. With plenty of power from the tuned 1600 engine without being too much of a handful this low mileage Super Seven is the perfect mix of controllable hoonery.
