The myth of Lotec

The German company Lotec is one of the most exclusive and at the same time most mysterious names in international automotive refinement. The company was founded in 1962 by Kurt Lotterschmid in Munich. The name ‘Lotec’ is derived from the first letters of his surname “Lot” and the word ‘Technik’. From the very beginning, the company stood for uncompromising individuality, technical innovation and extremely powerful vehicles. In the early years, Lotec initially specialised in motorsport conversions and performance upgrades for German sports cars. Mercedes-Benz models in particular played a central role. While many tuners of the 1970s and 1980s focussed primarily on optical modifications, Lotec pursued a technically oriented approach. The aim was to raise performance to racing level, which was sometimes combined with complex bodywork conversions and aerodynamic optimisations. Lotec gained international attention in the 1980s with spectacular customised models. The company became even more legendary with the Lotec C1000 from 1995, a super sports car commissioned by a wealthy customer from the Middle East and designed as an uncompromising high-performance road racing car. The C1000 had a carbon fibre monocoque and was powered by a Mercedes-Benz V8 biturbo engine that produced around 1,000 hp. With a target top speed of over 400 km/h, the project was at a technical level that was far ahead of its time. Production was limited to a single unit, which reinforces the legend of the vehicle to this day.

In the 2000s, Lotec increasingly shifted its focus to exclusive one-off productions, restomod projects and high-performance conversions for selected customers worldwide. Customised performance upgrades for super sports cars and individual bodywork concepts were particularly in demand. The company deliberately remained small and independent in order to guarantee maximum creative freedom. In contrast to large tuning brands, Lotec never focussed on mass production or broad-based marketing strategies. Instead, the company developed into a manufactory for extreme automotive construction. Discreet, technically sophisticated and only accessible to a very exclusive clientele. This restraint contributed significantly to the brand's mystical reputation. Today, Lotec is regarded as a pioneer in the field of high-performance vehicles and as one of the first German manufacturers to seriously pursue the 1,000 hp mark in the road vehicle segment. Although the brand never produced large numbers, its radical projects left a lasting impression on the world of sports cars. To this day, Lotec stands for uncompromising engineering, pushing technical boundaries and automotive individuality at the highest level.

About the vehicle offered here

This arctic white W124 300 CE-24 Cabriolet with blue interior was first delivered by Mercedes-Benz Frankfurt in May 1993. During the subsequent conversion by Lotec, a Garrett T04 turbocharger with up to 0.6 bar boost pressure was installed, along with the corresponding Lotec Turbotronik control unit and a modified engine ventilation system. This increased the engine output from 220 hp to 354 hp. For driving stability, a Lotec suspension lowering system and a set of Speedline SL wheels in 235/45 ZR17 and 255/40 ZR17 were also added. All these modifications were approved by the German TÜV at Lotec and entered in the vehicle documents. This perfectly preserved example has been part of the mechatronics collection for several years and was recently restored to perfect technical condition during a commissioning after many years of standstill.
