The original car was a 111R from 2004 - one of the first Toyota engined Elise built.
Sinclair Motorsport (now Essex Autosport) carried out the conversion in 2008 and called it the Tsukuba supercharged Elise - marketing it to other owners successfully although very few are left!
Lotus at that time did not offer a supercharged version so an Eaton supercharger with chargecooler was a sensible solution - along with Nitron/Eibach suspension and various other upgrades. These mods were carried out by Sinclair and all the invoices are available in a detailed file.
The supercharger smooths the power delivery immensely, so that the need to keep the revs above 5500 which is the bugbear of many a 111R owner is resolved. The chargecooler allows the power to be retained even when the engine gets hot. The sound of the engine and whine of the supercharger close to your right ear is something to behold, and combined with the sensation of relentless push is just in another league to a standard lotus.
During my ownership the car has been for mostly on road use with the occasional trackday. It is comfortable for long trips, with the standard seatbelts having been retained in addition to 4 point Luke harnesses. The standard 111R seats are amazingly comfortable, with balloon type lumbar support. It will also return 30mpg on a run, though a lot less than that on track!
Several modifications to enable hard use on track, without compromising the road performance have also been made. The Toyota gearbox is not strong enough for the 280bhp, and a complete gearbox rebuild in 2024 was carried out by ES Motorsport Norwich with new carbon synchros, new bearings, performance clutch. The previous owner had a Quaife limited slip diff and Kaaz final drive fitted too. The car was meticulously serviced every 6 months be the previous owner, evidenced by a huge file of documents. It was also serviced by me in 2024 with Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w-40 oil and filte, brake fluid and other consumables.
Seriously, this car is much quicker than a standard supercharged Elise!
