Overview
The MKIV (or MK4) Golf punched far above its weight in terms of comfort, build quality and looks, but performance was never its strong point. Whilst the 1.8t found in the GTI and the 1.9 PD found success later on with the tuning scene, out-and-out performance and ‘soul’ was something that was always lacking for the MKIV, until the R32 appeared on the scene.
Introduced in late 2002, the R32 used the VR6 engine for added grunt (and a fantastic soundtrack to boot) along with a Haldex all-wheel drive system and the choice of either a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox. Available in both 3 and 5-door format, the 3-door shell finished in Deep Blue Pearl has always been the iconic specification thanks to being used as the launch spec for the car, and as luck would have it, that’s exactly what we have here!
First registered in September 2003, this R32 is presented for sale in very good order throughout, and benefits from an upgraded non-resonated exhaust to make the most of the VR6’s burbling soundtrack. Other than the exhaust, however, it looks to be wonderfully un-messed-with, which is good news for any VW aficionados that covet the R32 for its model-specific features, such as those fantastic Konig seats and the 10-spoke OZ Aristo wheels.

Summary
Taking the well-appointed MKIV Golf platform and shoe-horning a VR6 under the bonnet was a stroke of genius by the VW design team. Sure, the R32 won’t be setting any records or be known for its nimble chassis or lightweight nature, but a comfortable long-distance cruiser with that wonderful VR6 soundtrack is a combination that will be cool until the end of time.
Offered for sale in the iconic launch specification colourway of Deep Blue Pearl and with under 80,000 miles on the odometer, this three-door R32 presents fantastically throughout, and shows only one or two small imperfections to attest to its age.
