Description
Stunning matching numbers RHD 356 originally purchased by internationally respected 356 restorer Roger Bray who fully restored this C coupe in the early 90’s for a customer.
Letter of authenticity, export registration, Rogers 1993 condition report and restoration photos from 1996. Limited use since restoration and continual storage in dry, heated and de humidified environments.
Delivered new to Lyndsay, official VW-Porsche importer/dealer Johannesburg, South Africa 20/12/1964. Export documents show first registered in 1965
First registered in the UK 1/05/1992
Roger Bray began the restoration in July 1996 when everything that was required was overhauled including a full gearbox re-build, carbs stripped,‘re-newed’/rebuilt, media blasted to bare metal, painted, re-trimmed, new brightwork, overhaul of all running gear, steering box, damper, brakes, new Koni shocks, wheel bearings, brake overhaul etc.
At the time the car was considered very original and after examination the only things that were not done were an engine re-build as it was in such good health as well as leaving the seats and door frame chrome as they were.
The car has only covered circa 3,000 miles since 1996 with consistent oil changes during that period.
Purchased in 2022 by current owner as part of his collection of classics. Living locally to Roger Bray, Allan and myself (Era classics) went to see the car prior to purchase and Roger enthusiastically told us all about it.
Stunning condition and amazingly well preserved, Allan has continued to store in a Carcoon and is only selling to make way for a period racing Alfa for races such as the Mille Miglia.
Roger Bray has just given it his usual comprehensive health checks in preparation for sale at a cost of £5,500 including full service, tappets adjusted, new MOT, leak and compression tests etc ensuring its in fine fettle ready for the new owner to enjoy immediately.
Having been driven circa 450 miles since the service and performed superbly with fault free motoring this lovely, reliable 356 is ready and worthy of any UK or European road trip.
In summary its a superb example that's been restored by the best in the business and really does still look restoration fresh having led a rather pampered life. A strong and willing engine, smooth gearbox as well as precise and nimble handling dynamics means its a joy to drive.
