Description
The perfect 911 R doesn’t exist…
This lightweight, limited edition 911 needs no introduction, but what does need to be discussed is the minefield that was the 911 R order form.
Porsche offered each of the 991 buyers a wide variety of configuration options when new. Consequently, finding correctly specified examples is tough, with many missing key options that today’s collectors market considers essential.
Fortunately, some were blessed with all the key boxes ticked; car no. 256 is one such car.
To the connoisseur’s eye, the standard decal set for the 911 R can perhaps appear a little too much. Fortunately, no. 256 was specified for discretion.
Ordered in the perennial favourite, GT Silver, without the decal pack, paired with silver wheels and a black leather interior, this is the ultimate “if you know, you know” 911 R configuration.
Looking at the factory options, highlights include:
- Single Mass Flywheel; highly coveted and often retrofitted to examples without it, the factory-fitted SMF offers a minor weight saving, reducing rotational inertia, sharpening throttle response for faster rev matching and giving a greater mechanical connection
- Lightweight carbonfibre bucket seats
- LED headlamps in black with PDLS; gives a far more sophisticated look to the front end and increased light output for night driving
- Front axle lifting system; essential for usability
- Cruise control
- Home Link; built in gate / garage opener
- Dual zone climate control; deleted as standard, but an important no cost option to add to the configuration
- PCM, digital radio, mobile phone preparation; again, all deleted as standard - but it’s important for the usability of the cars that this no-cost option be reinstated
- Bose surround sound system; if you’ve ever owned a 911 without this and appreciate any kind of hifi sound quality, you’ll know it’s an essential
No. 256 is a C16 UK RHD example registered new on 5th October 2016 and now with its 3rd owner, a private collector based in the north of England. The odometer reads 3080 miles and the car presents in collector grade condition.
Importantly it also benefits from a full service history and comes with official Porsche warranty until August 2027.
Service history;
28/09/2018, Porsche Centre Bristol, 2044 miles
29/09/2020, Porsche Centre Bristol, 2455 miles
19/09/2023, Porsche Centre Glasgow, 2611 miles
14/08/2025, Porsche Centre Glasgow, 2644 miles
MOT history;
Sept 2019, 2133 miles
Sept 2020, 2456 miles
Jun 2021, 2515 miles
Jun 2022, 2602 miles
Aug 2025, 2650 miles
Correctly specified and with such low mileage, this 911 R is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an example that could be driven sparingly or earmarked as part of an investment portfolio.
It would make a superb addition to any collection where its provenance within the UK 911 R hierarchy will always see this as a head and shoulders example.
