Description

Here at Str8Six we are passionate about the TVR product. But we recognise that TVR was building each achingly beautiful car for a specific market - and to a very pared down price! We thought this through and wondered what TVR could produce if the finances weren't so tight. The model we chose to do this too is the Mk1 Tuscan, a sure fire future classic, with drop dead gorgeous looks and loads of potential.
A suitable and sound Tuscan was selected. it was then stripped down to the very last nut and bolt, and everything that required replacing was replaced or was meticulously rebuilt before the car was painstakingly re-assembled over an 18 month period. The aim was to showcase Str8Six's experience, engineering skills and attention to detail. So what has gone into the Str8Six Signature Tuscan? Please read below:
Full Mechanical Restoration:
Chassis. Stripped and shot blasted, outriggers and other metalwork renewed. 3 stage powder coating process inc zinc prime. Fitted with the latest Nimbus heat shielding and coatings to improve against heat soak.
Suspension. New wishbones etc all fitted with new mettalastic bushes, balljoints, wheel bearings, rebuilt steering rack, re-valved for road Nitron dampers & Suplex springs. Latest Str8Six geometry alterations.
Brakes. Fully rebuilt inc new discs, pads, stainless braided hoses, master cylinder, calipers etc.
Engine. Fully rebuilt by Str8Six to our race spec but fitted with road spec camshafts and pistons. Bespoke offset counterbalance steel crankshaft, H section steel conrods. Tuscan S high compression pistons. Rebuilt cylinder head with uprated exhaust valve seats, gas flowed and matched to manifolds. Uprated 1/2 time roller bearings, chain kit and timing gear, tuftrided valves, cast valve guides, cast camshafts and latest finger followers, rebuilt water pump, oil pump, later type timing cover casting with harmonic improvement, later type cam cover with cam drips and cast boss for cam sensor. Roller bearing conversion to throttle bodies with throats machined and finished off with a carbon airbox and trumpets. New alternator and uprated starter motor.
Exhaust system. Ceramic coated exhaust manifolds which were gasflowed at the throat, ACT large bore stainless exhaust system finished off with Str8Six's oval silenced stainless tailcans.
Engine Management. Latest MBE 9A9 system, with wideband lambda and knock control, for improved feeling and protection against detonation. Bosch ignition coil, lead kit, throttle position sensors. New engine harness, Bosch high flow green injectors and fully bespoke mapped.
Cooling system. Alloy radiator, silicone hose kit, stainless pipework, new heat exchanger, high output Spal cooling fans.
Heating system. New air con compressor, condenser, receiver drier, trinary switch and air con pipe kit.
Transmission. Gearbox fully rebuilt using new close ratio gear set. Gearbox rebuilt and fitted with 3.7:1 crown wheel and pinion. New AP Racing clutch and lightweight flywheel.
Electrics. Rebuilt control units, new main wiring harness and all sub harnesses, new fusebox. Dash pod stripped, facia bespoke anodised and rebuilt with original type LCD, uprated software and chips. All battery cables and fuseable links.
Bodywork. Fully stripped and all panels were reworked by Surface and Design to better fit the shell. Door casings were cut down, the boot lid shortened and roof to targa fit completely reworked to make level. An pneumatic opening bonnet conversion was then fitted and the car was painted in Porsche Slate Grey. The end result was something far superior to what TVR ever achieved.
Interior. The whole interior was bespoke re-trimmed by one of the best trimmers in the business. The finest leathers and materials were used throughout with bespoke finishes to the seats, door cards etc. New seat foams were sourced and fitted, all the switch gear, dash pod, ashtray etc were dis-assembled, the controls chemically stripped and re-finished in black chrome by a specialist aero company that dealt in high end private jet refits. Rebuilt pedal box inc all new parts and fitted with original Typhon curved pedals and carbon pedal box cover. Seatbelts rebuilt with dark grey webbing and multi angle retractors.
Wheels and Tyres. 18" Spider alloys finished in chrome, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Finished in 2019 it was then purchased by a TVR collector who used it sparingly along with his Sagaris for the next 5 years. Having enjoyed his time with the car and wishing to downsize and enjoy retirement he approached Str8Six to see if we would purchase this and his Sagaris which we were more than happy to do so.
