1989 Volkswagen

This 1989 Volkswagen Golf Rallye G60 is one of approximately 5,000 homologation specials produced between 1989 and 1991, developed to satisfy Group A rallying requirements. Finished in green over a black interior, this example shows 165,000 kilometers and is powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter G60 inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission and Syncro all-wheel drive. Not equipped with air conditioning, it represents a well-preserved and tastefully upgraded example of one of Volkswagen’s most iconic performance models.

Originally registered in Germany before being imported to the UK, this Rallye G60 has been under current ownership for approximately two years and is now UK-registered with a valid MOT through August 2026 with no advisories. The car is accompanied by its original service book and a history file, and it has recently undergone a major service along with a general tidy-up. The seller notes that an additional service will be completed prior to sale. The bonnet and grille were replaced in the early 2000s following damage, with correct OEM parts used.

The exterior retains the distinctive Rallye-specific box-flared arches, unique front fascia, and squared-off styling that differentiate it from standard Mk2 Golfs. A full windows-out respray was completed approximately eight years ago and continues to present well, maintaining a period-correct appearance. Sebring alloy wheels are fitted and remain in very good condition. Minor cosmetic imperfections include light scuffs on the sills and slight shrinkage to the front and rear bumpers, which could benefit from refinishing for improved presentation.

Inside, the cabin features Rallye-specific electric Recaro seats, which were retrimmed along with the rest of the interior around seven years ago and remain in good condition. The overall presentation is clean and consistent with the car’s enthusiast ownership, preserving the original character while benefiting from refurbishment. The head unit currently has a stuck CD, though a replacement unit will be supplied.

Mechanically, the car has been upgraded with a Stage 4 performance package, enhancing the already distinctive G60 powerplant. Modifications include an upgraded Stage 4 supercharger, matching chip and pulleys, and aluminum boost pipes finished in an OEM-style color to maintain a factory-like appearance while supporting increased performance. The combination of these upgrades with the Syncro drivetrain delivers a more potent and engaging driving experience while retaining the essence of the original Rallye concept.
