1934 Alfa Romeo

At the heart of this 8C 2300 Monza recreation is a 3,051-cc supercharged straight-eight engine, good for a heady 260 bhp and paired with a four-speed gearbox. Both were built to order by renowned Alfa Romeo 8C specialist Jim Stokes of Waterlooville Hampshire at considerable cost; £315,000.

This engine is nestled around bodywork crafted over a two year period by The Design Cast Limited in New Zealand. Whilst others around the world are building 8C replicas, Colin Howard’s reputation for detail and authenticity sees him supplying owners of original cars with parts in lieu of those no longer available. Created over a two year period by hand and at a cost of just shy of £250,000, the 2300 Monza body today wears a wonderful pale blue inspired by that of Louis Chiron’s car in period.

In 2023 with the chassis and engine completed, the car arrived with Setford & Co in Hampshire for assembly. Extensive efforts were made to ensure the correct alignment and fitment of panels, and the experienced team fitted the engine to the chassis before building up the braking system and leaf sprung suspension with adjustable friction dampers. Original parts were used where possible, including period correct instruments, original stock Bosch headlamps, switchgear and badges. Setford & Co invoices tally to more than 2,100 hours of labour into this project.

The completed article received bespoke luggage boxes and livery to distance itself from any specific car and creating an identity of its own. Testament to its accuracy and authenticity, this example was awarded a Historical Technical Passport by the FIA, granting it eligibility to many prestigious races and rallies.

Offered from the care of the commissioning owner, this remarkable example is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately.
