The Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo
It is the further developed version of the successful 488 GT3 and was officially unveiled at the 2020 Ferrari Finali Mondiali in Mugello. Following an initial minor update the previous year, the car underwent a comprehensive overhaul as the Evo version, with the aim of further enhancing performance, driveability and versatility in customer racing. The focus was particularly on improvements in the areas of aerodynamics, driving dynamics, ergonomics, safety and reliability. A key development priority were aerodynamics, particularly at the front end. Ferrari invested around 18,000 hours in calculations and CFD simulations, followed by wind tunnel tests, to optimise the airflow conditions. The result is a redesigned front apron with a reduced surface area below the headlights, complemented by side flicks to increase downforce on the front axle. In addition, the air outlets on the front wheel arches have been enlarged and the front door areas tapered to make the airflow around the car more efficient.
The 488 GT3 Evo has also undergone significant further development in terms of driving dynamics. The wheelbase has been lengthened, which, in addition to increased driving stability, leads to improved tyre management and reduced wear. At the same time, this adjustment has made it easier for teams to switch between GT3 and GTE specifications. Furthermore, the vehicle weight has been reduced, giving teams more flexibility with ballast to optimally achieve the prescribed minimum weight. The proven 3.9 litre V8 biturbo engine remains unchanged in its basic configuration but has been fitted with revised electronics. The traction control and ABS systems have also been optimised to enable even more precise tuning and better drivability. In the cockpit, a new, lighter yet more rigid racing seat has been developed in collaboration with Sabelt, improving both safety and ergonomics. For teams using the 488 GT3 Evo in endurance racing, Ferrari also offers an optional Endurance Package designed to meet the demands of longer race distances. Overall, the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo represents a logical evolution based on years of racing experience, making it one of the most versatile and successful GT3 race cars of its generation.
About the vehicle offered here
This 488 GT3 Evo is also equipped with the Endurance Package, which includes the following components: tyre pressure monitoring system, hydration system, air conditioning, Endurance brake calipers, Endurance lighting, carbon clutch, and a Motec 4G telemetry and data logging system with a rear view camera, including a display integrated into the dashboard. According to the previous owner HubAuto this car was entered by their racing team in various championships between 2018 and 2020. It began with the 2018 Blancpain Asia Championship, in which the car secured two race wins, ultimately finishing the championship in second place. In 2019, it competed once again in the Blancpain Asia Championship, where solid race results led to third place in the Silver Cup standings. That same year, it took part in the Asian Le Mans Series, where a series of victories secured the GT Teams Championship title, crowning this 488 GT3 Evo the championship winning car of the 2019/2020 season. On 25 October 2020, the car wearing start number 27 lined up on the grid for the Spa-Francorchamps 24 hour race with a star studded lineup comprising Tom Blomqvist, Marcos Gomes and former Formula 1 driver and Le Mans winner Kamui Kobayashi. After a new engine had to be fitted during practice, the team failed to complete the required minimum number of laps, meaning they had to start the race from the pit lane. After the trio made up an incredible 41 places during the race, the car had to be retired with a heavy heart after 23 hours and 45 minutes due to further engine problems shortly before the finish. The Spa race livery remains on the car to this day. Beneath the wrap lies raw carbon fibre. In 2022, we purchased the car from HubAuto and have kept it in the Mechatronik collection over the following years. The engine has a mileage of 3,050 km and the gearbox 4,450 km.
