1960 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE

A fantastic opportunity to own one of the most iconic British sports cars ever produced, this Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite offers classic charm with a number of well judged upgrades to enhance usability and driving enjoyment.

Originally supplied as a left hand drive US market car, this example was imported to the UK in 1991 and has since been converted to right hand drive as part of a full restoration. It now presents as a far more usable and enjoyable car for UK roads while retaining all of the character that defines the Frogeye Sprite.

Finished in a striking red exterior with a black interior, the car has a classic and purposeful look. A smaller leather wrapped steering wheel has been fitted to improve driver feel, and harness seat belts are also installed, adding an extra level of safety. The car is presented in usable condition, showing some age related marks as expected, but overall it presents very well with an honest and appealing appearance.

The exterior benefits from a de bumpered look, giving the car a more aggressive and sporting stance while highlighting the unmistakable Frogeye front end. It sits on correct steel wheels with Austin Healey hubs, maintaining a period correct finish. The steel bonnet with its proper front opening latch remains in place, a key feature of these early cars.

Mechanically, the car has been upgraded to a 1275cc A Series engine paired with a 4 speed manual gearbox, offering improved performance over the original setup and making it far more capable in modern driving conditions. During restoration, the car was also upgraded with front disc brakes, providing improved stopping power and confidence on the road.

More recently, the car has benefitted from significant mechanical work carried out by Classicwise. This included engine removal to complete a full clutch replacement with new components, inspection and preparation of the flywheel and gearbox input assembly, as well as the fitment of new engine mounts. The engine bay was cleaned during this process and the car was reassembled with fresh oils and fluids throughout, with final checks confirming correct operation.

The car is supplied with its hood frame and side screens, allowing for enjoyable open top motoring as well as practicality when required.
