Description
For sale is my 2005 Renault Sport Clio 182 Trophy (No. 119/500). I have owned the car since last May and bought it with the intention that I would be using it more often than I actually have been so I have taken the decision to list it for sale so that someone else can use and enjoy it.
This will be quite a long description of the vehicle as I want to describe it as accurately as possible and I have also taken plenty of detailed pictures.
The car is certainly not a low mileage concourse example but nor have I priced it as such, I have tried to be realistic with the cars valuation and take into account both it’s good and bad points.
It presents in a reasonable condition but the exterior has had paint at some point in the past as there are some receipts in the extensive history file relating to it. However they do not specify exactly what was done and unfortunately the passenger side front wing has had some issues with the lacquer peeling off, there are also some pin pricks in the lacquer on the spoiler, near the aerial on the roof and just below the rear window on the driver’s side of the boot lid.
- It has done 110637 miles (this may increase slightly).
- Valid M.O.T until 26/9/26
- I am the 14th owner, this number is another factor I have tried to take into account when putting a value on the car but it also now approaching 21 years old.
- The car is accompanied by a 1.5-inch-thick folder of receipts and information going back to 2005.
There really are so many invoices included with the car that I have tried to pick out the most relevant ones to servicing and maintenance and list them below along with the stamped history in the service booklet, but any potential buyer is more than welcome to go through the invoice folder in detail if they come and view the car as I have gone through it and put it into date order.
- 25/03/26 I have just had the O/S/R brake caliper replaced, along with new rear brake pads and a handbrake adjustment at 110579 miles.
- 10/6/25 I changed the Oil and filter at 109011 Miles using a genuine Renault filter and Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40 oil.
- 03/02/23 Most recent full cambelt and dephaser service as well as a new alternator fitted at 106081 Miles (Invoice included) A full set of Michelin Pilot sport 3 Tyres were also at this time but they are date coded 2020 so I assume they were old stock and they still have plenty of tread left.
- 13/07/22 Oil and filter change (Invoice for filter included)
- 20/06/22 Two Rear Shock Absorbers purchased from Renault Parts Direct (Invoice Included)
- 27/08/20 Stamped in booklet replacement of Gearbox, Clutch, Flywheel and driveshafts by Vtec direct at 99363 Miles. (Invoice Included dated two weeks later on September 10th 1019)

The car does have some modifications which I will do my best to list but they were all carried out by owners prior to myself, however there is a printed copy of a 2020 Forum thread from the Clio Trophy owners club included with the car which details the ownership of the car by the then owner who spent a considerable amount of money on maintenance and some modifications.
One key point is related to the gearbox; they purchased a replacement refurbished/or had the existing box refurbished by a well-known forum member on the Cliosport forum called North Loop Cup. At the same time, they also fitted a Lightened flywheel from PMS and had a new Valeo Clutch fitted and replaced the driveshafts.
Engine, gearbox and exhaust:
- The car had a remap (engine calibration session) at EFI on 23/06/20 where the HP was then measured on their dyno at 182HP and 162.7lb-ft of torque with Dyno printouts included in the history folder at a cost of £199.00
- The Car is fitted with a Pure Motorsport 182 Rear and Centre silencer with 182 3” Slash cut tips, costing £486.50. This was installed in June 2020 and the card retains an OEM catalytic converter which isn’t too loud but provides a few subtle burbles if you lift off from higher revs. It also has Pro-AM exhaust hangers and the improved Renault centre exhaust mount.
- It has an OEM Exhaust manifold that has been Zircotec coated in white.
- It has MS Custom Engineering Powder coated, ported and gas flowed intake manifolds, a MS Custom Engineering Powder coated, gas flowed throttle body and matching red powder coated cambelt cover and injector/fuel rail cover which cost £300.00 in 2020.
- It is fitted with Magnecor ignition leads.
- It is fitted with a JMRS Induction kit which provides a nice induction noise.
- It has had the top engine mount replaced, an upgraded gearbox mount fitted and the lower gearbox (dogbone) mount inserts have been replaced with Powerflex Polybush items.
- Gearbox refurbished/refurbished unit fitted in 2020 at 99363 miles and fitted with a new Valeo clutch and lightened flywheel. There is no grinding with the gears or crunches and the car pulls properly in every gear.
- When up to temperature the needle on the gauge sits exactly where it should.
- A negative point is that there is a slight oil leak coming from the sump gasket on the driver’s side rear of the engine. It is not major and has only lost a small amount of oil (under 300ml) in the 1600 miles since I changed the oil last June, but I feel I must mention it so as to be totally honest.
- There is no smoke from the exhaust either at idle or under acceleration.
- The car sometimes can have a bit of a lumpy idle, it never stalls but again I feel I should mention this point.
Interior:
- The interior has no sticky buttons or surfaces that is so often a problem with Clios of this age, and the air conditioning/heater controls and radio are blemish free with no signs of wear.
- The Factory fitted Recaro Trendline seats are present and in very good condition.
- The OEM Radio is currently fitted, both the CD and Aux input work as they should but the radio itself is only producing static. However, a Sony DAB MEX-N73000BD radio is also included with the car in a box.
- There are a few rattles and occasional buzz here and there from the interior but this is a 20+ year old car fitted with poly bushes which do have their benefits but one of the drawbacks is the increased vibrations felt in the cabin.
- The steering wheel was retrimmed in leather with a red centre stripe and stitching by K-tec Racing in July 2019 and it is still in very good condition.
- A previous owner has applied a few extra sheets of sound deadening material internally to the boot floor.
Exterior:
- As stated above the car does present quite well but it does have some issues with the paintwork that may or may not bother you, the most notable being the lacquer peel on the front passenger side wing and the small number of pin prick sized holes in the lacquer on the roof near the aerial, the spoiler and on the right hand side of the boot lid just below the window. There are also stone chips here and there, more so around the leading edge of the rear wheel arches that are to be expected from a nearly 21-year-old car but I have done my best to show these in the pictures. There is also a small (1 inch or so) crack to the front bumper just above the plastic splitter on the driver's side.
- There is a very small amount of surface bubbling just above the sill on the driver’s side in front of the rear wheel arch which I have included a picture of and there is also a very small amount of bubbling by base of the petrol filler cap hinge, but I have regularly cleaned and given the car several coats of wax during my ownership and made sure to keep the wheel arches clean from any dirt/mud that may build up and apply ACF50 to the inside of the rear wheel arch lips to prevent corrosion.
- The rear arches themselves don’t have any rust.
Wheels, Tyres, Suspension and brakes:
- All 4 tyres are 205/45/R16 Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s and were fitted on 20/03/2023 and have plenty of tread left but are date stamped 2020 so I assume they were new old stock at the time of fitting.
- The wheels all have a few issues here and there with the paint but nothing too terrible and a few light curb marks but I have included a picture of every wheel.
- The Brake lines have been replaced front and rear with stainless Steel braided lines fitted in 2020.
- The car is fitted with Eibach Front Trophy Springs, installed in 2020.
- The car is still fitted with the correct and all important front Sachs dampers but according to a post on the Owners club thread the front Sachs dampers were replaced in 2020 but I don’t have any invoices to prove this unfortunately so they would perhaps benefit from a refurbishment and the rear dampers appear to have been replaced with Renault OEM items for the 182 in 2022 according to the invoices I have.
-There is a slight knocking noise from the front suspension when going over particularly rough/bumpy tarmac which the local garage believe is coming from the front top mounts having some slight vertical play in them.
- The ARB bushes and steering rack bushes were replaced with Powerflex items in 2020.
- Brand new O/S/R brake caliper fitted in March 2026 along with a handbrake adjustment and new rear pads.
All the original handbooks are included with the car along with M.O.T certificates going back to 2008. The factory Jacking kit is also present in the boot. Only one of the original Keys is supplied with the car but a spare non central locking key is also provided.
No PX’s or Swaps. If you wish to test drive the car, please bring a driver’s licence and proof of insurance.
If you have any further questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
