Description

2003 MK3 Toyota MR2 Roadster - 6 Speed Manual
1E7 "Crystal Silver" Paint
Optional "Santa Cruz" Red Leather Seats and Doorcards
A mid-engined 1.8L VVT-i with 138bhp and 125lb/ft of torque in a 990kg package gives "lively" performance that combines with the open-topped experience that just makes life better.
A facelift car so benefits from a 6-speed manual gearbox, larger 16" rear wheels, suspension geometry changes, extra structural bracing and more modern lights, side vents and bumper designs along with some minor changes to seats and dashboard controls.
"Santa Cruz" Red Leather Seats with rear pockets.
Chrome Interior Kit(s)
3D Printed TTE emblem on roof "Pull" handle
Modern 6 Speed Yaris Gearknob for better feel (original included)
Pioneer FH-S720BT Headunit with Hands-free / USB / BT / Spotify
TTE "Banana" Spoiler
TTE Fuel Cap Trim
Factory Rear Bumper Extensions
Factory Side Skirts
Powdercoated Standard Alloys in "Shadow Chrome"
Toyo Proxes T1R tyres on all 4 corners.
Twin tailpipe exhaust, believed to be from "Gravity", that offers enhanced sound but isn't too shouty.
K&N Panel Filter
"TRD" Oil Cap
Air Conditioning (currently non-functional due to a suspected leak but I just opened the roof)
Enough storage behind the seats to mean you can enjoy it on a trip away, enough space for a set of golf clubs too thanks to carefully designed easily removable trim panels.
MOT: 24 Jun 2026
Come with the original Toyota documents wallet, I have the original order forms, lots of receipts and 2 original keys with OEM keyrings. Locking Toyota wheel nuts and "key".
Points to note:
I bought the car on a 3am whim on eBay from a seller who wasn't as honest as I am, the "mint" paintwork and "new roof" weren't evident after I driven up to the Lake District with insurance in place and the family in tow.
As such I want to highlight that the nearside of the car shows some signs of paint / repair. It all seems fine structurally but the paint person appears to have been somewhat "unskilled" and it's rather flat in places with some really bizarrely work on the rear 1/4 that really needs doing properly. The tweeter in the passenger door doesn't match the standard one on the driver's side so maybe the door got swapped out by a previous owner or the tweeter broke?
There's also a crap touch-up above the front driver's side wheel arch, I have a J-Spec supplied panel to replace this that can come as part of the sale.
It's a cheap, 23 year old car, that's priced to reflect my desire to sell quickly and for the buyer to have some budget left to resolve the things I didn't have time to do myself. Because the panels bolt off and on easily I'd planned to simply replace them with good ones from J-Spec but was fearful of skirt removal, I'm not a bodywork chap but it's probably an easy job for anyone that's braver than I am.
I have unpainted fibreglass front spats with adhesive, primer and paint that I'd be willing to sell at a discount if the buyer fancies them, again I wasn't brave enough.
The roof is pretty decent compared to a lot out there, it's watertight and the drain bags have been cleaned out and do their job, there's just a couple of "tears" in the usual places where the vinyl is out under stress, both are pictured.
I think the rear brakes might be missing an anti-rattle shim as there's some noise over bumper roads that stops if you touch the brakes.
Handbrake cables are doing their job but, like a lot of these cars, probably need replacing at some point.
One front fog light is out, I've never used them and noticed as I checked the car over today.
I was told it's had a new rear subframe by the last owner, I suspect it's had a "new used" one to pass the MOT along with some other welding on the sills, I'd describe it a "Japanese car crusty" underneath but it seems structurally sound and my local mechanics seem to agree whenever it's been in with them.
Since putting the K&N filter in it occasionally throws up an engine light on the return leg of a long journey, the codes I've read are "P0174 - Powertrain System too Lean (Bank 2)" and "P0171 - Powertrain System too Lean (Bank 1)", I suspect the MAF might need cleaning (K&N oil?) but the light clears itself and performance seems unaffected. Another one of my "to do" jobs that life has got in the way of.
All in all it's been a great little mood booster for me at a time when I really needed it, the MR2 scene is a fantastic thing to be part of and these cars punch well above their numbers and price. I feel like they are due to be an appreciating asset now as numbers dwindle and more people realise how awesome they are.
If I had the space I'd be holding on to it but unfortunately I can't justify it for a car that only does a handful of (very fun) miles each year.
Happy to answer any questions, unless you're a scammer, but I'd really love this to be as pain-free as possible as I'm really going to miss this thing.
