Description
1974 Porsche 911 2.7 Targa Hot Rod
135k Miles, Original Colour Rare Lime Green! Great Project
A characterful and very usable 911 Targa with huge potential, this left hand drive example started life as a German market car, later exported to the USA before being imported to the UK. Showing 135,000 miles, it has benefitted from over £25,000 of recent investment and is now an exciting project ready for the next stage of its journey.
Originally supplied in the very rare and desirable colour Lime Green code 137 (otherwise known as Birch Green), traces of which remain visible beneath the later US applied red repaint. The car presents well overall but would benefit from cosmetic improvement on close inspection, offering the opportunity to return it to its original colour or further develop the hot rod theme. Mechanically, the car has seen significant recent work. The fuel system has been overhauled with a rebuilt metering head, warm up regulator and new injectors. The engine has been removed, resealed with new gaskets and refreshed with various replacement components, and a new clutch has been fitted. The brake calipers have also been rebuilt. The car runs and drives very well, having recently completed a 130 mile journey without issue, although it must be noted that as with many flat six engines, there is currently an oil leak present.
The 915 gearbox is fitted with a Numeric short shifter, giving a precise and engaging shift. The standard exhaust and heating system has been deleted and race headers have been installed, producing a fantastic soundtrack. The original Fuchs wheels have been professionally refurbished and are fitted with premium Pirelli Cinturato tyres. Inside, the car has been fully reworked with a custom interior, including RS style door cards from Carbone, new carpets, period bucket seats, Crow lap belts, Rennline floorboards and interior trim, a Prototype steering wheel and a discreet custom Marshall Bluetooth speaker installed under the dash. The Targa roof has been retrimmed and is complemented by a polished roll hoop.
The car remains surprisingly rust free, with only minor rust repairs previously carried out to the battery tray and front lower panel. The underside has been cleaned & protected by the last owner. Serviced most recently in 2025 by Porsche specialists GCR Central, with invoices on file for work carried out over the past three years. Earlier history is unfortunately not present. HPI clear and current MOT valid until November 2026 with no advisories.
Overall this is a great opportunity to acquire a running and driving, usable 911 Hot Rod project at a sensible price point. Ideal for further development or a return to its rare original Lime Green colour which would make for a desirable classic 911.
