Here we have a seriously impressive 1988 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk2, finished in the highly desirable Monza Blue, and presenting as a superbly executed fast-road build that perfectly blends classic styling with modern turbocharged performance.

The Mk2 GTI remains one of the most iconic hot hatches ever produced, and this later big bumper example offers the more aggressive and sought-after look, with deeper bumpers, wider arches and that unmistakable GTI presence. This example sits beautifully and carries real road presence, complemented by its clean bodywork and purposeful stance.

Inside, the car has been tastefully upgraded with a pair of Recaro bucket seats, providing excellent support and enhancing the driver-focused feel of the cabin. The interior remains true to its roots while benefiting from an upgraded stereo and sound system, making it equally enjoyable on longer journeys.

Under the bonnet is where this GTI truly stands apart. Professionally fitted with a 2003 Audi TT 1.8T 20v engine, this conversion has been carried out with clear attention to detail and performance in mind. Supporting upgrades include Vibra Technic engine mounts, a Turbo Performance upgraded turbocharger, Direnza intercooler, EV14 injectors and an aluminium radiator. The result is a car producing approximately 260hp, with dyno printout available, delivering performance that far exceeds standard specification.

Power is delivered through a Mk4 Golf gearbox, paired with a Sachs VR6 clutch and Mk3 Golf flywheel, working alongside a Quaife limited slip differential to ensure the power is put down effectively. The driving experience is sharp, responsive and incredibly engaging.

The exhaust system has been custom fabricated, running 3 inch to 3.5 inch and back to 3 inch, finished with a track slag twin silencer and tips, giving the car a deep and purposeful tone.

Handling and braking have been uprated to match the performance, with Gaz Gold coilovers offering adjustable suspension, G60 front hubs and brakes, and Mk4 Golf rear calipers. The result is a well-balanced and confidence-inspiring car that performs as well as it looks.

This is not your standard Mk2 GTI, but a carefully built and highly capable example that offers modern performance in a classic, analogue package. Increasingly sought after and difficult to replicate to this standard, it represents a fantastic opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
