Description
Here is my extremely reluctant sale of my beloved Honda S2000.
This is a car that needs no introduction. Undoubtedly a future classic. The S2000 perfectly hits the sweet spot between engineering excellence and technological big brother. A wonderful lightweight, agile, and responsive sports car that has one of the finest soprano singing voices ever made. Without the annoying modern bings and bongs that constantly try to tell you off. For those that know the S2000 well, will already know it is enormously rewarding to drive and comes alive when the VTEC kicks in around 5500 rpm. Heal-and-toe throttle blips on the downshifts reward like nothing else. It does have ABS but no traction control to catch you if you’re not concentrating.
There have been many words written about the legendary F20C VTEC 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. As the kids would say: “if you know, you know”. But for those that need a little refresher, the Honda F20C engine has won numerous awards including best naturally aspirated engine, engine of the year, and still now, regularly features in best engines ever made polls. Producing 240hp from the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine revving to 9000rpm still makes it as intoxicating as ever, and in a world of electric car whirs and whines, this engine sings and screams.
I have personally gone to great lengths to keep this car OEM spec and this is an outstanding example of that. As a future classic that is gaining in popularity and value as a modern classic, ensuring that every part of it remained standard was important to me. There is however 1 exception, the brake calibers were professionally pained red a few years ago when I had the brakes completely refurbished. Other routine maintenance includes a new clutch approximately 2000 miles ago, new rear dampers at the last service, new master and slave clutch cylinders, and regular oil changes. The car has a full Honda service history until recently when I started taking it to Hond-R, a specialist Honda garage who now knows more about these classic cars than the dealers these days. I have had the oil changed very regularly approximately every few thousand miles, including oil filter change.
One other small but notable change is the repositioning of the headlight washer spray button. The button famously positioned in the central armrest next to the handbrake, is prone to spraying at unexpected times when leaned on with your elbow. I have repositioned the button with the later spray button which positions this into the front dash surround. The car is the iconic Silverstone Metallic Silver launch colour with the highly sought after interior colour combination of black with red leather. This particular colour combination is the most iconic and was the combination used for the UK press launch photography. The original 5 spoke offset alloy wheels still feel balanced by modern standards too, not too big or too small.
Dry stored for the majority of the time I have owned it, with indoor and outdoor covers. The indoor cover is a matching silver and red, with red stitched Honda badge. I will include the indoor cover in the sale. The S2000 private numberplate is also included in the sale and finishes the car off nicely.
Whilst the car is nearly 26 years old, she is in outstanding original condition inside and out. Even the original CD player is mounted in the dash (not that I have ever felt the need to turn it on!). There are inevitably a few age related marks on the paint work with a few stone chips and cracks in the paint on the relatively flexible by modern standards plastic front and rear bumpers. But to the best of my knowledge the paint is original. The red leather seats are also showing signs of age, especially the drivers side, but again, still in surprisingly good original condition for their age. For those looking for a concourse finish, will likely look to get it re-sprayed in the near future. There are one or two areas of rust showing on the offside rear arch and sill that are clear in the photos, and a small carpark ding on the driver’s side door, so certainly not perfect, but as is clear from the pictures, the bodywork is still in outstanding original condition and still shines beautifully in the sunlight.
I have used the car of course, it has certainly not sat dormant in a garage for its whole life. The milage shows at 99,870 which whilst slightly higher than some that don’t get used, I have averaged roughly 2000 miles per year in the time I’ve owned it. I absolutely do not want to sell this car, but running a small business means I don’t have the time to drive it half as much as I’d like, and seeing her not being driven is soul destroying. So it’s time to let someone else cherish her as I have. But also, enjoy driving it, as I have.
