2021 MORGAN PLUS FOUR AUTO

The CX generation Morgan Plus Four, as we have here, meets at the crossover of tradition and technology. The exterior design of this car you could be forgiven for thinking it belongs to a 75-year-old car, in fact the Plus Four has been in continuous production for 75 years, but underneath and inside we have a thoroughly modern sports car, with modern reliability and performance. ‍**This Car**

This one owner Plus Four was originally built in 2021 and comes with a fantastic specification. Its current owner is no stranger to Morgans, having owned a 3-wheeler, a Super-3, this Plus Four and now has a Supersport on order too, this was his second Morgan and played a key role in getting him thoroughly hooked.

Originally specified through Williams Automobiles, the car comes highly equipped including air-conditioning, chrome wire wheels (inc spare), automatic transmission, heated seats, quilted leather, Morgan wings embroidery in headrests, matte Walnut dash and Bluetooth speaker system, everything you need for weekend blasts or touring further afield.

The car has been finished in a Morgan Bordeaux, a truly wonderful colour which has a real depth and clarity, it looks great in the photos but even better in the flesh. The original owner saw fit to have paint protection film applied to ensure the car always looks its best.

The inside of the car is very nicely appointed too, with the Cream Pebble extended leather giving a welcome visual contrast to the exterior. Whilst the handmade needlework to the seats, both for the quilting and the headrest embroidery, is finished in Mullberry as a subtle nod to the exterior. Both the dash and the centre console are finished with Walnut veneers in a matte finish, the mix of classic and contemporary all harmonising to make the interior feel very welcoming and special.

Speaking of touring, the original owner took the car on a fantastic tour of France including the famous Route Napoléon. Being a careful planner, he purchased a set of snow chains, just in case. Luckily snow was evaded and the chains not needed, so the car does now come with an unused set of snow chains, just in case the new owner feels like planning a wintery road trip.

The Morgan Plus Four was originally launched in 1950, proving to be a winning formula the car has been in continuous production for 75 years. Cosmetically, the model has only gently evolved, with this latest generation car bearing uncanny resemblance to the original, in fact the front wings are still made on the exact same jig at the factory.

Although the ash frame, bodywork and interior trimming is all still coach built by hand in Malvern using generation’s old techniques, it is all used to disguise what is a thoroughly modern sports car under the skin.

Power is delivered, all 255bhp of it, using BMW’s B48 2.0-litre turbo charged 4-cylinder engine, transmitted through an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Performance is thoroughly modern too, with 60mph dispatched in 4.8 seconds, on to a top speed of 149mph, all whilst returning a very sensible 45mpg.

The chassis too has evolved too, in 2020 the very old ladder frame chassis was replaced by a bonded aluminium tub, with double-wishbone suspension all-round, this helped to get the power down, improve roadholding dramatically, all why ensuring comfort is the best of any Morgan. However, none of this has numbed the driving experience, in fact all the theatre and feel you would expect from a Morgan is still present, only more accessible than ever.
