Overview
The E92 M3 came along at a time when manufacturers were constantly trying to one-up one another, not only in the power stakes but also on the “how many cylinders can we realistically get away with” chart. It was a heady time and BMW played an excellent game. There was the sublime 5.0-litre V10 in the E60 M5 (and in the E63 M6) so it seemed only natural that the latest M3 should get an extra two cylinders over its predecessor. Right?
Right. And it remains the only production M3 to benefit from such an engine. All 414bhp of it. Good for a 0-60mph time of four-and-a-half seconds it certainly had the performance credentials necessary to warrant that coveted M badge on the boot. Combine all of that wonderful power with an excellent chassis as well and it still feels special today, even next to its RS and AMG rivals.
It was a huge step forward in terms of tech, too, and a trick dual-clutch automatic gearbox was now par for the course, among other enhancements. Available as saloon, coupe and convertible it's the coupe that remains truest to the original M3 brief and this particular 2012 model looks to be an excellent example.
A low mileage, low owner car it presents well in an attractive blue over tan leather interior colourway and comes to market complete with excellent and mainly marque specialist and main dealer service history. Well-maintained, recently serviced and with an advisory-free MOT the car has clearly been cherished and is reportedly driving as new with no mechanical issues.
