Overview
We're pretty sure that most of you will be acutely aware of the perennial popularity of the pickup truck across the pond but it's not just the Americans that hold sway over these historically humble workhorses. Far from it. The Japanese have been building pickups for decades and all of the major manufacturers have weighed in over the years with the most famous of the lot arguably being Toyota's Hilux.
Immortalised by that now famous Top Gear episode whereby the lads tried unsuccessfully to destroy a 1988 model by various means, including drowning it in the Bristol Channel and even setting it atop a 23-storey building before demolishing said structure, Toyota and all, the Hilux has garnered quite the reputation for being a hugely capable and robust machine. Today it enjoys a certain position of prestige amongst classic car fans.
The history of the Hilux actually goes all the way back to 1968, with the name literally meaning “high luxury” by virtue of the fact it was a bit nicer than Toyota's previous offerings but it's the fifth-gen models (like the aforementioned Top Gear truck) that are considered by many to be the coolest and therefore most desirable, such as this stunning, recently refreshed 1992 facelift example.
Both the bodywork and interior have received major work at considerable cost and although not fully restored the sheer amount and indeed quality of the work is undeniable. The vendor reports all mechanical issues have been addressed as required and as such the truck is running well with fully functioning four-wheel drive capabilities. With an oil change less than 500 miles ago, as well as a recent MOT pass, this Toyota Hilux presents incredibly well and is ready to go pretty much anywhere you wish to take it.

Summary
Looking every bit the rugged off-road pickup truck this recently refreshed Toyota Hilux has the mechanical integrity to match with the vendor exclaiming it will go anywhere. Benefiting from a significant recent mechanical overhaul the truck is reportedly in rude health and thanks to its non-turbo engine is simpler to maintain and potentially more reliable than its forced induction brethren. Indestructible? Perhaps. Eminently capable and as cool as a cucumber? Absolutely. We do, however, recommend steering clear of demolition sites, just to be on the safe side.
