2002 BMW

Reluctant sale of fantastic BMW.

This was bought new from Dick Lovett BMW (Hungerford) by my friend’s father and has been owned only by that family then later my family, so has been known to me since new.

Lovely metallic blue, dark blue soft top, tan interior and light wood trim.

Good points:

Superb 3.0 litre straight six engine, one of BMW’s best ever engines am told. Manual gearbox, still runs and drives beautifully and sounds superb.

Electric retractable roof still works perfectly.

Original factory hard top for winter (with stand - see pic) which is in excellent condition.

BMW deflector for driving with roof down (deflector and hard top stand fit in boot when not in use)

Space saver spare tyre in boot floor, original tyre change kit.

Heated front seats, auto headlights.

New battery just fitted by the RAC with 5 year warranty (to April 2031)

MOT until 3rd September 2026 - passed first time last year.

Decent service history - some BMW dealer, some independent.

No major mechanical problems I am aware of.

Alloys in good condition, few scuffs but I would say very good for age and mileage.

No leaks (when roofs are up/on!)

2 original keys.

Points to be aware of:

Fan for cabin heating/cooling does not work.

Have spoken to local BMW expert - is common problem for these E46 cars apparently, is fixable (resistor needs replacing) but takes a couple of hours he said.

Radio actually works fine but retractable external aerial has snapped off (see pic)

Electrics switches on steering wheel (cruise e.g.) do not work

Trip and clock reset on every engine switch on.

Some wear to leather on drivers side.

Most obvious internal wear is to central plastic console between seats in front of rear seat (see pic).

Some paint works loss to front end - see pic.

Some damage to front off side bumper (see pic).

Few visible rust spots through paint below boot lid - see pics.

Is small (1cm) tear in soft top that has been there years - does not let water in.

In summary - it’s still a stunning looking car with roof down, roof up and with hard top, and drives beautifully. It’s 24 years old so clearly are imperfections - have tried to be as honest/clear as possible.
