1993 TVR GRIFFITH

This is one of the factory development Griffith 500s that was built in 1993, as the first production

Griff 500 before being used as a press car. Afterwards it was used by John Ravenscroft for

development with the Speed 6 and AJP V8 engines.

After being owned by the factory and another gentleman who intended to fully restore it to its

original state, we bought it with the same intention in 2009. It was still untouched from when it left

the factory. When we purchased the car it was complete with the exception of the Speed 6 engine

that was last fitted to it.

This has been a labour of love for the last 16 years with lots of ups and downs. Although this car did

have a few different engines fitted in it, we decided to put an AJP V8 back in. This in itself presented

us with lots of problems. Although it fits in the engine bay, lots of things had to be changed or

bespokely made, so that other things would fit i.e. engine mounts, exhaust, induction etc.

The 4.5 AJP engine that we put in it was rebuilt by Simon Wood, who is an ex factory engine builder.

It was built with race ported heads, Carrillo steel Hbeam rods and Carillo forged pistons.

We had a bespoke custom made exhaust built to acommodate the engine. The car runs an Emerald

ECU mapped to suit.

It has Alcon 4 pot brakes, as were fitted by the factory. It also has a new hood.

The chassis was body off and completely refurbed in 2016.

It has been road legal, driven and MOT’d for most of the time we’ve owned it.

The battery has been relocated to behind the seats to provide more space.

The next stage in the restoration is to get the interior retrimmed and the car repainted.

It comes with lots of provenance i.e. magazines, books, marketing material it’s featured in ( Top Gear with Tiff Needell )

This would be a great part of TVRs history to be owned and restored.

It’s got Patina ( original faded paint and trim with many stories to tell )

Mot mileage history is unclear being a test car at the factory and engine changes .

The car itself has probably covered about 80 k but the latest AJP engine and gearbox has covered less than 6000 miles .

Also has A/C fitted that works
