Description
I've owned this car since August 2019 and bought it with 1,200 miles on it - I am the second owner. It has a full service history and has had interim oil changes rather than going with BMW's long intervals. It has been a brilliant family car for us but the time has come for a 7 seater, so the BMW has to go.
The car itself is a high spec M-Sport Shadow Edition, and was originally run by a manager at BMW in Woolwich before I bought it. It has full panoramic roof, head-up display, "warm climate" intake fitted from factory, Harmon Kardon stereo system, large screen professional Nav etc etc. It has very low mileage at just under 30k, and drives perfectly.
Over the 7 years I've owned it, the car has had a few modifications to make it a little more interesting / useful as a daily driver, but without compromising on its every day useability. It has had:
- At 12,000 miles, it went to Birds and received the full "B3-40i" kit, including a 430bhp upgrade, Torsen limited slip diff and Bilstein suspension. This is a great upgrade and transformed the car particularly in terms of the ride. The original suspension will come with the car. More info is available on the Birds website, and Pistonheads a few years back did a test that you can find on Google.
- It has had some exhaust work done to make it slightly louder - it retains the original exhaust but the back box has been "straight piped" inside. It is not loud - not near the MPPSK cars, but has a lot more character than the standard PPF cars.
- It has fitted a separate unit alongside the standard head unit in order to provide full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- everything works and there are no issues with it - no warning lights, no failures. The only issue I have had with the car in my 28,500 miles was to have the knock sensors replaced when one failed
- the car is debadged and the grills have been replaced with black M double bar grills (originals will be supplied with the car) - the photos show the car before these changes were made
- It comes with a set of winter wheels and tyres - 18 inch 400m alloys
- it has a set of nearly-new Michelin PS5s on it
- the car is accident-free, no finance, clean record and only failed MOT once (for a missing wheel bolt)
- it has only ever been run on 98 RON
- two keys present
Overall, this is a great car - it solves the problems that the original 340is have (primarily pretty cheap-feeling m-sport suspension) but without compromising at all on every day useability. Whilst the car is tuned, it is not driven hard - the PS5s are the first new set of tyres it has had (other than the winters) and the brake pads / discs are the originals from factory, still with more than 50% remaining.
In terms of bad bits, for full disclosure:
- the alloys are suffering with the usual "white worm" corrosion that BMW diamond cut alloys get
- there's one or two very small paint chips but the car is generally very good condition for its age
- one of the winter tyres has a relatively slow puncture
- nothing else I can remember
