Description
Mexico, 1964. After a season-long feud with the FIA, Enzo Ferrari had handed in his competitor's licence and sworn that his cars would never again race in Italian red. For the final two Grands Prix of the year, the Scuderia ran instead under the colours of Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team - a deep blue and white that was, by any reasonable measure, the wrong livery for a Ferrari. John Surtees won the World Championship in it. That blue would in time find its way onto the road, first on the 275 NART Spider, and from there into the Ferrari palette as Blu Nart - a darker, quieter, more contemplative shade than the saturated blues for which the marque is more readily celebrated. It suits the 812 as well as any colour Ferrari has ever offered for it. This particular car was commissioned by its first owner to sit alongside his LaFerrari, finished in the same Extra-Range Blu Nart. The discipline of that brief runs through every line of the specification. Outside, the paint sits over a set of 20-inch forged TDF wheels, with yellow brake callipers and a pair of Scuderia Ferrari shields on the front wings forming the only deliberate concessions to colour. Titanium exhaust pipes close out the rear, and adaptive headlights with SBL function bring the front into the modern idiom. Within, Blu Sterling hide replaces the inevitable black-on-black, extending up the dashboard, across the centre console, down the door panels, through the parcel and rear shelves, and onto the steering wheel itself. The carbon fibre racing seats - height-adjustable via the optional lifter mechanism - are finished in the same hide, with central panels in Grigio Chiaro forming a quiet stripe down each, matched in turn by the special Grigio Chiaro stitching used throughout. A Cavallino is embroidered into each headrest in the same lighter tone. The driver zone and upper centre console are trimmed in carbon fibre, and the rev counter is rendered in Ferrari's optional yellow - the only piece of cabin theatre, and a clean reference to the callipers outside. Inner details are finished in Extra-Range leather, and Blu floor mats complete the colour run. Further appointments include the front axle suspension lifter, parking camera, High Power Hi-Fi system, Navtrak anti-theft subscription, and Ferrari's HELE (High Emotion, Low Emission) package. Two owners from new, tastefully specified; as a sister car to the first owner's LaFerrari - a pairing that accounts for both the restraint of the brief and the depth of consideration evident throughout. Naturally, the car has been maintained under Ferrari's seven-year complimentary service programme since new, most recently with H.R. Owen in October of last year, at 9,668 miles. Paint protection film has been fitted to the front end, preserving the Blu Nart finish against stone chips and road debris.
