Overview

In stock form the R231 sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL is an exceptionally capable grand tourer. Fully aluminium and loaded with tech, including a trick folding hard top, it's a cracking evolution of the revered SL marque. In SL63 form it came with a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 representing pretty much all the car you could ever need, at least from a luxury sporting perspective.

For some, however, pretty much just doesn't cut it, and that's where AMG comes in. M-B's performance arm have been fettling the SL since the R129 in the early '90s and so by the time the R231 came around in 2011 it was inevitable that there would be a souped-up version and the AMG SL63 is an absolutely sublime incarnation of an already hugely impressive car. 

Equipped with a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 mated to an AMG Speedshift seven-speed automatic gearbox it produces a whopping 530bhp and 590lb ft of torque. With the Performance Pack this car produces 577 and 664 respectively, enough to rearrange internal organs at an astonishing rate. AMG sports suspension and the usual AMG exterior and interior enhancements complete the rather lovely package and the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG remains a highly sought after machine.

This low mileage 577bhp 2015 example was bought by the current vendor in 2016 from official Mercedes-Benz dealership Lyhs and Gondert in Koblenz, Germany, where it was believed to have been a demonstrator. Fully UK registered the car comes to market in excellent condition throughout in an attractive and desirable colour scheme of matte silver paintwork over black leather interior.

Notably, this car was specified with the P30 Performance Pack, same as the F1 safety car. This includes increased power alongside a limited-slip differential, red brake calipers and and AMG performance steering wheel.

Complete with Mercedes-Benz main dealer and specialist service history and a fresh MOT the car has clearly been cherished and well maintained and looks to be a praiseworthy representation of the marque.

Summary

Blessed with the most powerful engine ever plonked in the R231 SL the 577bhp Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG has serious bragging rights and will happily demolish any trip you decide to take it on, making Google Maps seriously question the accuracy of its estimated arrival times. It's not all brute force though, far from it, and the car will happily cruise comfortably should you require. Beautifully presented and apparently in rude health this particular low mileage example then is an incredibly difficult car to ignore.
