TOYOTA GR86 D-4S 2023 // ELECTRIC BLUE

If you're considering a GR86, you'll already know they’re a straight-forward and simple sports car. A refreshing pallet-cleanser compared to the usual "sports cars" being churned out by other manufacturers; with unusable power, unapproachable limits, swathes of driver aids and irritating safety systems.

With such a promising base to work from, it’s been a pleasure carefully modifying the car in areas that I felt needed refining and/or improving.

Engine:

- Tuning Developments equal length manifold.

- Tuning Developments over-pipe.

- Tuning Developments front-pipe.

- HKS High Power Spec L II.

- MST intake

- Tuning Developments EcuTek remap (250bhp / 218FtLb)

The above bits totally transform the driveability and sound of the car.

Yes, it’s noticeably quicker, but most importantly, the hair-trigger throttle sensitivity of the standard car is replaced by a smooth and linear power delivery with a throttle pedal that’s proportionate and easy to modulate.

Chassis:

- Öhlins DVF coilovers

- Pedders front top-mounts.

- OEM rear top-mounts.

- Fensport front camber bolts

- SuperPro rear lower control arms.

- Powerflex differential bush inserts.

- Powerflex gearbox bush Insert.

- Compomotive TH1781 wheels (17” x 8” – ET35).

- Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 tyres.

- AP Racing CP2900 front calipers.

- AP Racing front discs.

- OEM rear discs.

- Ferodo DS2500 pads (front & rear).

- Braided brakes lines.

- DOT 5.1 brake fluid.

- GT3 front brake ducts.

The standard suspension is good, but quite busy and stiff at all speeds. The Öhlins offer a slightly more comfortable ride quality at slow speeds, but once at b-road pace, they really come into their own with a plushness and composure the OEM setup could only dream of.

The geometry has been done properly by ATEC Align to a “fast-road” spec. So, nice and sharp but most importantly; predictable and friendly.

Ride height is only around a 25mm reduction, so no issues with clearance over speed bumps or bumpy roads.

Interior:

- MTEC Shifter Springs.

- MTEC Clutch Pedal Spring.

- Recaro Pole Position (not for sale).

The MTEC bits give a precise and mechanical throw to the gear-shift, and the clutch pedal now has feel and accuracy. Only a minor couple of modifications, but a big improvement to the main touch points of a manual car.

Unfortunately the Recaro Pole Position is not for sale. The standard seat will be going back in.

Miscellaneous:

- Professional Lanogaurd treatment when new (literally drove it from the dealership to the application centre).

- When the car was at Tuning Developments I asked them to pull the sump off, check and clear out any sealant that might have been in the oil pickup (this is a “thing” if the internet is to be believed). Pleasingly there was nothing to report.

- First 3 services carried out at Toyota (poor service, overpriced and zero expertise). Most recent service done at Tuning Developments (these guys know what they’re doing).

- Boot lid wrapped in matt-black vinyl.

- All standard parts retained and included in sale.

- Private plate not included in the sale.

So, after all that why am I selling? Purely because I like a project and love cars. Too many choices out there to stick with one for too long.
