1978 Ferrari

Foskers are pleased to bring this original, and special right-hand-drive 308 GTB to market. Produced between 1975 and 1985 the 308 was the successor to the Dino and featured a 2.9 litre V8 mid mounted 240bhp engine with 5 speed transmission and 4 wheel disc brakes. The then leading driver of the Scuderia in Formula One, Niki Lauda, was effectively involved in defining the set-up of the new model.

Manufactured by Ferrari SpA, Maranello in 1977, this example was delivered to Maranello Concessionaires Ltd and first registered 1st January 1978- making it among the first steel body 308 GTB's in the UK. Bodies were initially constructed in fibreglass but the switch was made to steel bodywork because the weight saving was minimal and build standards improved. Regarded today as an iconic design with coachwork by Pininfarina the model is now recognised as an absolute classic. This example is a 'carburettor car' featuring the desirable dry-sump engine, with their distinctive burbling sound and higher horsepower than fuel injection cars that followed in 1980. Production continued only through 1979 during which time there is rumored to be just circa 211 RHD steel bodied, dry sump carburetted 308 GTB's that were produced for the UK market. Just like its GT4 forebear, the Ferrari 308 GTB’s flexible 3.0-litre V8, space-frame chassis and independent suspension enable it to play the part of a fast yet comfortable cruiser, as well as a full-bodied Ferrari sports car.

Presented in Argento Auteuil Metallizzato over Nero VM8500 hide and Rosso carpets, as specified from new. Early factory letters and delivery notes confirm original spec which included deep front spoiler and aircon. Retaining original 14in wheels and period correct single outlet exhaust.

A car well known to Foskers, we have looked after since 2018 and supplied to the last two owners. Will come with annual service and cambelts.
