Description
What a pretty car this left-hand drive 1964 Porsche 356SC is! It came to the UK from the USA in 2014 and was treated to a full back-to-metal restoration by Road and Race, a Porsche Centre Approved Body Repairer. Where possible, genuine Porsche body parts were used, including new floor pans, sills, B pillars, inner front wings and more. It was then finished in the original Sky Blue paint, mixed by Glasurit to the same formulation that would be have used in 1964.
The interior has been beautifully retrimmed in the original grey leatherette finish with grey carpets. Everything is as it should be, right down to the correct black rubber grab handle (so often this replaced with an incorrect chromed one).
The engine was fully rebuilt by Porsche specialist Mike Bainbridge and fitted with new Weber carburettors, plus converted to 12-volts. The gearbox was rebuilt as well. The Porsche has its original engine and gearbox, so is ‘matching numbers’. The suspension and brakes were also fully refreshed.
The 356 comes with a large history of paperwork, detailing what has been done to it, and includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. There are numerous receipts from Porsche and from Roger Bray Restoration, which specialises in Porsche 356s, and others, for hundreds f new parts, including brakes hoses, interior and exterior trim, electrics, suspension parts, seals and much, much more. Everything done to or bought for this Porsche has been accounted for and invoices add up to over £100,000.
The Porsche comes with the age(and model) appropriate registration ‘UIB 356′.
The Porsche 356SC was the top of the range model of the final incarnation of the 356, introduced in 1963. It boasts an uprated 1600cc engine that produced a then-heady 104bhp (the standard 356C made do with just 74bhp). All-round disc brakes were a worthwhile upgrade, compared to the previous cars’ drum brakes. The 356SC was discontinued in 1965, by which time the 911 was in full production. The 356SC was the last and, arguably, the best of the 356 range, and remains a great car to drive.
