*The detail - for those genuinely interested (or those who don’t mind somebody spouting on about their pride and joy):
The car was bought as a company car from Porsche Centre Aberdeen and used extensively for the first 4 years, covering nearly 57k miles (or 64% of its total mileage). It was then sold to an older gentleman in the Midlands who bought it as a retirement present to himself and kept it for 13 years, using it for high days and holidays and covering around 3k miles a year as a third car.
It was this gentleman who I bought it off - he had decided to sell as, since he had “taken a Spanish girlfriend” (at the ripe old age of 83!!), he was spending less time in the country and was lucky if he was doing 800-1,000 miles a year in it. The car had always been kept garaged throughout that period and serviced as needed, with a raft of invoices being passed on with the vehicle.
I have owned the car for 2 years and have enjoyed every minute!
In that time, it has been up to Scotland from Merseyside 3 times and, last summer, took me and the wife on a near 1k mile trip around England (Cotswolds, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall) for our summer holidays… the weather was glorious, it was 35 degrees, we had the roof down all the way and the car added so much to the experience, making it an adventure!
The car is only being sold to help pay for our recent wedding. But it has given me the Porsche bug, so I’m sure we’ll be in a 911 soon 😉
In my ownership it has had the front suspension rebuilt, a full set of Continental ContiSport 7’s and a four wheel alignment using Hunter equipment, along with an AOS replacement, major service (plugs, coils, aux drive belt, cabin filter, oil filter), brand new Porsche catalytic converter and lambda sensors, plus a (very expensive!) genuine Porsche PCCM+ unit fitted.
It has recently had an oil and filter change so it’s ready for this summer.
The car has never had a borescope done, but I’ve never had to add oil in between services and it exhibits no bore scoring symptoms - it has always been run on good quality E5 and never subjected to the sort of trips and warm up processes that cause engine issues to these vehicles. Being the 3.4, it also has the stronger, bigger IMS fitted and has more power than the 3.2. The yearly tax is hefty, but the car is much (much!) cheaper to insure than its competitors, so it all balances out. Plus you could SORN it over winter if it wasn’t getting used, helping to reduce the tax bill…
The car has been loved and cared for, but it is 19 years old and isn’t concours; it has been used as intended so has some chips here and there. However, it stands out even amongst much more expensive machinery and everybody comments on the colour (it was at Porsche on the Prom in Llandudno last year and always had a couple of people around it).
It will be missed.
The mileage will increase as it’s still being used, so come and buy it quick!
