Overview

Named as an homage to the original Tuscan from the '60s the Speed Six, despite bowing out twenty years ago after a six year production run, remains an incredibly capable and visually stunning slice of British engineering expertise. The car looks good from any angle and even though it sits in the two-door, two-seater sports car segment it's actually a really rather practical proposition thanks to its roomy interior and decent sized boot.

The Tuscan would be offered with TVR's venerable Speed Six six-cylinder engine in varying displacements but it's the OG 360bhp, 4.0-litre cars that are arguably the purest and with around a four second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 180mph performance is certainly not lacking and it still very much impresses to this day. As far as used buys go, generally speaking, any mechanical issues will have been smoothed out by now and with excellent specialist aftermarket support for these cars reliability shouldn't be an issue and any work that is potentially required can be easily remedied. 

This early 2000 example has been in current ownership since 2017 with the vendor informing us that the car has been stored in a garage and driven only during the spring and summer periods during that time. Complete with TVR main dealer and renowned marque specialist history the car has been fastidiously maintained with the engine having been fully rebuilt by TVR in 2003. Presenting well throughout the car is reportedly mechanically sound and very reliable although the chassis and outriggers are beginning to show the usual signs of light corrosion but this is a relatively easy job to rectify.

• Tyres are Toyo Proxes T1 Sport models with the vendor reporting good tread at all four corners

• The vendor informs us that the underneath is good although the frame and outriggers are showing signs of light corrosion and the chassis around the exhaust manifold would benefit from painting shortly

• Some scratches to the underside of the front end

Summary

The TVR Tuscan Speed Six really does have it all. Incredible performance: check. Stunning looks: check. A wonderful soundtrack: check. Surprisingly practical: check. Dynamic and hugely engaging: check. Add in this car's decent service history and this particular Blackpool rocket makes a lot of sense. The chassis work is easily taken care of and certainly shouldn't put off any potential buyers so if you're in the market for a good TVR then this Tuscan deserves your attention.
