THE APPEAL

The desirability of early Porsche 911 speaks for itself, but the 1972 911 2.4 T as a one-year-only production model with its outside oil filler flap or Oel Kalppe & in right hand drive form is super rare & collectible. Finished in Grand Prix White with black leather reminiscent to the 911RS. Better weight distribution due to relocation of oil tank & mated to a five speed transmission makes for improved handling & exceptional driving.

MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION

Porsche’s long-running and much-loved 911 Sports Car first appeared at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show in prototype form, the 901 (later to become the 911, following Peugeot's complaints about the use of '0' model numbers) It was Porsche’s first entirely new model since the 356 had been launched in 1948.

1969 saw the first major changes in the 911 evolution. To improve driving comfort and handling dynamics, the popular 2.0 SWB models had their wheelbase lengthened by 57mm, and were fitted with slightly flared wings to accommodate larger wheels and tyres. Model designations changed too – ‘T’ ‘E’ and ‘S’ formed the new lineup with the 911L a luxurious version for 1968 as in this example.

The mechanically fuel-injected 911E (with the ‘E’ standing for ‘Einspritzung’, German for injection) was produced from 1969-1973, replacing the ‘L’ (luxury) model. It was developed more for comfort, so was positioned between the 911T (Touring) and 911S (Super).

The type 901/09 140 bhp 2.0 flat-6 engine is easily identifiable by a distinctive green shroud, and could get the 911E to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds and carry on to a top speed of 134 mph. The 911E also had new ventilated brake discs, self-leveling hydro-pneumatic dampers, a leather steering wheel, and Fuchs alloys.
