2025 DACIA SPRING EXTREME EV

Right, I know exactly what you're thinking. "Is that a toy car?" Which is fair enough, because it is absolutely tiny. Genuinely ridiculous. If you left it on the kitchen table, someone might try and put batteries in it.

But no, it's a proper car. In fact, I reckon it's the smallest car we've got for sale, and I'd be surprised if there are many smaller ones knocking about anywhere else. That's actually the whole point of it. Around town it's brilliant. You can nip through traffic, slot into parking spaces that other drivers can only stare at wistfully and generally make life a lot easier for yourself.

The weird thing is, despite looking like it should only comfortably accommodate a chihuahua, there's actually a decent amount of room inside. I'm not exactly built like a marathon runner, and I got in perfectly comfortably to drive it back from Leeds. No folding myself up like a camping chair. No dignity sacrificed.

Then there's the electric bit. You'll inevitably get some bloke in the pub telling you EVs are useless because the range is "only" about 125 miles. Firstly, that same bloke probably hasn't driven 125 miles in one go since his family forced him to take them to Skegness in 2017. Honestly, think about how often you drive even 50 miles in a day. Most people barely do half that. And if you do fancy venturing further afield, charging points are everywhere now. You're not crossing the Sahara.

What you really notice with an EV is how peaceful it is. No engine noise, no vibrations, just silence. You can stick on some panpipes, pretend you're at a luxury spa, and briefly forget you're actually crawling along the ring road behind a white van.

This one's finished in Khaki too, which is comfortably the best colour in the range. It comes with a matching interior that looks far more expensive than it has any business looking. Like it's turned up to a black-tie event despite only being invited for drinks.

Equipment-wise, it's got pretty much everything you'd want: sat nav, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, and all the other bits we've become spoiled by these days.

And finally, the best part: it's still covered by Dacia's warranty until 2028. Which means you get all the benefits of a nearly-new car without having to take the financial hit that comes with buying one brand new. Not a bad result for something most people initially mistake for a Hot Wheels.
