Numerous other small changes took place both inside and out, such as a slightly different grille, new door handles, a more raked windscreen, top-hinged pedals and improved interior trim. 1971 saw the Spider Veloce receive a new, larger 1962cc engine and consequently the name was changed from 1750 Spider Veloce to 2000 Spider Veloce. According to the Alfa Romeo Archive, this Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce: Chassis/VIN No: AR 2460035 & Engine No: AR00512-06312 is a ‘Matching Numbers’ car and is a LHD car finished in its original colour scheme of Rosso Carmen (AR510) with a Black interior and it was manufactured on 21st July 1971. This is also one of the very first Series 2 Spiders produced in 1971 and is chassis number 35 for the Type 105.54 This car was first owned by Helga Winkler from Turin in Italy, who was a true protagonist of Italian photography and founder of Fowa and Nital, the largest Italian photography companies. She purchased this Spider new from Alfa Romeo dealer Monzeglio & C in Torino, Italy on 15th September 1971 and Signora Winkler owned the car for 40 years up until she sadly died in 2011. It was subsequently sold to a Mr Lorenzo Dico in Milan in March 2012 with the recorded mileage of 103,000 Kilometre's (63K miles). Mr Dico kept the car for a further 8 years covering circa 8,272 Kms during this time and there are several invoices in the file for servicing works, some of which show the mileage. The car was sold by him to a British Alfa Romeo specialist (3rd Owner) in July 2020, and he flew out to Milan and drove the car back from Italy to the UK. It was officially imported and registered here with the DVLA on 1st December 2020 and given the period number plate WWT 974J. After carrying out some recommissioning works, he sold the Spider to the current and 4th owner in Richmond, Surrey on 7th March 2022 and we have now been given the car to sell on his behalf. On inspection, this 2000 Spider presents very well and looks gorgeous in its original paint scheme of Rosso Carmen and is complimented with a very nice Black vinyl interior and retains the correct rubber mats with the Alfa Romeo logo intact. The soft top has been replaced and is in excellent order and it does come with its bag/cover, fitted when the top is stowed in the down position. Mechanically, the car is excellent and drives beautifully and the 5 digit speedometer is now showing 13,419 Kilometres - 113,419 from new, which equates to 70,477 miles. The engine bay is original and excellent and still retains the original sticker on the air filter box, the engine starts easily with excellent oil pressure whilst hot or cold and the gearbox operates smoothly and without any synchromesh issues; in fact in our opinion, it is one of the nicest examples we have seen or driven for many years. These Spiders were years ahead of the opposition with their 5-speed Gearboxes, Disc Brakes on all four wheels and with that lovely 'raspy' Alfa Romeo 4-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine; does it get any better? The specification certainly means that this car is more than capable to compete in modern traffic. The extensive history file verifies all of its ownership both in Italy and the UK and includes Italian & UK registration documents, letters of authenticity from the Alfa Romeo Archives, Italian Historic Vehicle Register certificate and plaques, period literature, service book, handbook, and original supplier's wallet - Monzeglio & C, Torino . Also of interest is the first Lloyd lnternazionale insurance document in Helga Winkler's name. Being an early production model and given the excellent condition and low ownership, this Alfa Romeo presents an opportunity for the real collector and enthusiast to acquire one of the iconic Alfa Romeo models of the period. We are just in the process of preparing the car for sale and a full set of photographs and a video will follow along with further details. The car is clear on all HPi Registers and is registered as an 'Historic Vehicle', so its MOT exempt, Road Tax free and ULEZ compliant. Upon sale, the car will receive a new MOT and pre-sales service and come with our own 6 Month basic Warranty, which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, South West London. Please note: Classic Chrome Ltd makes every effort to ensure the information provided is accurate and supplied in good faith.
