Description
An original and rare right hand drive 23 window Samba model that is in the most superlative condition following an 11 year rebuild to the highest standards.
The work has been completed by those that know and only the finest componentry and accepted upgrades have been used to ensure easy use. For example, rack and pinion power steering with polished finish is fitted along with a discrete retro stereo system that sounds great. The key features are listed below but suffice it to say the exquisite detail finish and functionality of every component is beyond reproach.
Finished in period correct VW Weiss Glasurit and VW Cameo Blue Glasurit the body was prepared and finished by Aston Engineering Derby at a not insignificant cost, however, it was well worth it as the finish is flawless as is the panel fit, certainly way better than the original.
The bus has seen only light summer use since completion and hence it retains the perfection of the restoration whilst any snagging has been dealt with as has regular servicing. If you want a right hand drive VW Samba, it is hard to think there could be a better one.
Whilst retaining the original look the Samba has been upgraded mechanically using the very best available componentry. Hence on the road it really excels driving like no other. The Scat Volkstroker engine with twin 40mm Solex carbs gives ample smooth power and the Rancho Freeway Flyer transmission is very easy and positive in use. The dual circuit disc brake system and coil over suspension together with the above-mentioned rack and pinion power steering make the Samba an unexpected joy to hustle on country roads.

Understanding your Engine and Starting Procedure
'There are no chokes on the Solex carburettors so you need to let the motor warm up before driving away. This is only needed when the motor is totally cold. ie starting first time in the morning. The motor should start instantly throughout the day even if it’s been stood several hours. It should not need to be warmed up again the same day.
To start the motor check that the vehicle is in neutral with the handbrake on.
Turn the ignition on. You will hear the fuel pump in the back of the car.
Wait a few seconds to allow the fuel to find the carburettors.
Pump the gas pedal twice.
Turn the starter and the motor should fire up instantly. (If it doesn't repeat the above again.)
When the motor fires, gently apply the throttle enough to bring the revs up just enough to keep the motor stable and give it a chance to warm up. lt needs to run for approx 3-5 minutes before driving away.
Your engine has a mild Street Camshaft to give it better pulling power around half revs. This means you get a vibration at low revs until the engine has warmed up. Try to keep the revs just enough to loose any labouring.
Your Bus also has an external full flow oil system that holds twice the amount of oil that an original VW motor had. This is a great improvement as twice the oil equates to longer oil life, longer engine life and a greater cushion against low oil level. Remember your engine is Air Cooled which actually means Air Cooled Oil. Check the oil level every week when using it regularly. Top up if required with S30 mineral oil.
Your engine also has a temperature valve that holds back 50 °/o of the oil until the first 50°/o has warmed up. It is at this point that the engine will run smoothly.
IF EVER THE GREEN OIL WARNING LIGHT IN THE SPEEDO COMES ON STOP THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY.
Avoid starting the Bus if you’re not going to take it for a drive. Modern petrol has no lead content which W/ engines were designed to run on. Modern petrol deposits a black soot up inside the spark plugs. This will normally burn away when you take the Bus for a drive. A 20 minute drive once a month will help keep the plugs alive. If you start the car regularly and do not drive away the plugs will be ruined very quickly and the first you will know will be the engine runs very roughly. Keep a spare set of plugs. You need Bosch R6 plugs.
Use a trickle charger to keep the batteries charged rather than running the engine without driving the car.
Remember, Old cars work better the more you use them.
