EXTERIOR

This 1991 Eunos Roadster is finished in classic Silver Stone and presents in superb condition throughout. The standout feature is its exceptional rust-free condition – something increasingly rare on early Mk1 examples. The car remains entirely original underneath, with no signs of welding repairs; even the factory spot welds are clearly visible along the wheel arches and sills lips. Importantly, the underside has never been covered in underseal, allowing full transparency of its outstanding condition (photos available).

Having been imported to the UK in 2003, this Roadster has clearly been cherished. When purchasing a Mk1, structural integrity is key – and this example excels in this area. The MOT history shows no record of corrosion, further supporting its quality. Now 35 years old, the bodywork still presents exceptionally well indeed, with straight panels throughout and a consistent colour across each panel. It retains its original black vinyl hood and tonneau cover, which remain in good condition, along with the lightweight factory ‘Daisy’ alloy wheels which have just been painted.

INTERIOR

The interior remains highly original and unmodified, presenting exactly as an early Eunos Roadster should. Aside from two small repairs to the driver’s seat base, the original ‘tombstone’ seats are in excellent condition. Impressively, it still retains its factory Eunos steering wheel, gear knob, and even the factory fitted Panasonic stereo – features that are often replaced over the years. Where many MX-5's of this age have been modified, this example stands out for its originality. The footwells are fitted with genuine black Roadster over-mats, also in excellent condition – another rare and desirable item that’s becoming increasingly difficult to source.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The Roadster is powered by the lively 1.6 DOHC engine and is, quite simply, one of the nicest examples we have ever driven. The engine bay is also very well presented, reflecting the level of care this car has received. It has recently benefited from an oil and filter service, along with new spark plugs, leads, and wheel alignment. The cambelt was replaced in 2022 at virtually the same mileage it shows today, offering additional peace of mind. The car now sits on fresh Eibach Sport springs, lowered by 30mm, which sharpens the handling and reduces body roll while still maintaining a compliant ride. The renowned Mazda 5-speed gearbox is exactly as it should be – precise, and a joy to use.

HISTORY FILE

First registered in Japan in 1991, this Roadster was imported to the UK in 2003 and, remarkably, has had just one careful owner since (the V5 states 0 previous keepers). This is long term ownership of 23 years, where the car was always garaged. Unlike many imported examples, this car comes with an impressive amount of original Japanese history and manuals.

The history includes the original Eunos maintenance booklet, owner’s manual, and document pack – all very rare to find – along with various Japanese invoices and documents, plus two original Mazda brochures. There is also a comprehensive stack of UK invoices, MOT certificates, and a recent HPI report. The odometer reads 86,715km (53,882 miles indicated). With Eunos Roadsters now being worth nearly double the value in Japan compared to the UK, there is a limited number of solid, non-repaired examples left these shores.
