Description

1962 UK RHD E-type Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe in Opalescent Silver Blue with French Blue interior. Featured in the April 2026 edition of E-type magazine - see photos. Emphasis on originality.
The 787th car built, an early dished-floor example. Just undergone a nine-year, 4000 - plus hours concours-standard restoration from a bare shell and stripped to every last nut and bolt.
There is too much information to include in this advert so there is a dedicated website for the car. Here, there is a photographic record of the restoration both body and mechanical; the E-type magazine feature; the history/ provenance; a profile of the restorer; and a gallery of videos and photos of the car now. Unfortunately, Piston Heads don't allow direct website links in the advert so please contact me and I'll give you the link.
The car has had just four owners since 1969. The first was Richard Bacon at Venture Garage in Holbrook, Derbyshire; there is a period photo of the garage below; the second a Mr J Dyson; the third Brian Bray; then Mark Antwis.
The car was purchased by the current owner, Mark Antwis, at H and H Auctions in 2017. It had been owned since 1978 by Brian Bray, who had bought the car from Mr J Dyson for the princely sum of £410 (there is a receipt in the photos below). Brian ran a classic aeroplane restoration company called Wigstone Aero Sports and had begun a bare shell restoration — replacing floor pans and some panels. He had an ex-Cosworth engineer called Stuart Decton working for him who rebuilt the engine, gearbox and rear axle. There are various receipts for engine machining work below. Stuart's name can be seen on the Rugby Motor Services receipt for the rebore and pistons. However, by 1985 the incomplete project had lost momentum and the car went into storage in Brian's outbuilding, where it remained until Mark acquired it over three decades later.
The car comes with a huge history file including all receipts for the current restoration parts and services; a log of all the hours spent on the restoration with dates and times; and invoices from the Bray family from the 1980s for engine work (re-bore, pistons, crank regrind and shells) and for the body panels they bought from Martin Robey. Comes also with the original green log book and Heritage Certificate — see photos on website; current V5 and MOT certificate until May 2027.
