1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE

This is a very original 1967 E-Type Jaguar Series 1.5 DHC. I have owned the car since 1994 being 32 years of ownership in total. I have made sure that I have driven it every 4 - 8 weeks since then (see the handwritten note photo of part of my record). In all that time it has only been driven in the rain once when I displayed it at a classic car show and it has never, ever been on the roads when they have been gritted. It has always been kept in a dry, dehumidified garage. It has never been restored or rebuilt so virtually every single part on it is a genuine Jaguar part. The car really does drive beautifully.

It was fitted with a Series 2 bonnet early in its life after a suspected minor bump. It is one of the very first series 1.5 cars being standard series 1 apart from uncovered headlights and ribbed cam covers. The series 2 bonnet could be replaced with either a series 1 or a series 1.5 bonnet without detracting from its appearance. The car was opalescent silver blue from new and has never had a colour change or respray.

It is a genuine UK car. I have struggled to check if it has matching numbers but I suspect that it may have had a replacement engine of the correct year fitted many years ago but I could well be wrong. The car has a blue leather interior piped in light grey and has chrome wire wheels. The car has covered a genuine 95,995 miles.

The car is running and driving and has never been off the road. It was last MOT'd some years ago with no advisories (see photo) but since the requirement for older cars to have a current MOT was dropped I have not submitted it for a test. The car has been subject to rolling servicing by myself or a local mechanic during my ownership.

The engine runs very well with good oil pressure and does not overheat. An extra electric cooling fan with a manual switch was fitted many years ago as a backup in heavy traffic.

I have a modern Jaguar which is serviced and maintained by a professional garage which gives me my driving pleasure. The E-Type requires minor work (see details below) but not being particularly mechanically minded and now being significantly older than I was when I acquired the E-Type I do not have the enthusiasm to give it the attention it deserves. This is the reason for putting it up for sale and I will be sad to see it go but I think the time has come to pass it over to someone who will enjoy using it. My mechanic described it as "a good, solid car but it wants completely going over".

The paintwork is dull and the interior is worn. There are numerous small scrapes and dents on the car but I cannot see any evidence of serious corrosion. There is a bit of bubbling on the driver's door and some paint flaking on the sill - please see the photographs.

In the last year I have fitted a new battery and as part of the service schedule I changed the oil in the differential. I have also just renewed the antifreeze. All 4 tyres were changed as a complete set recently and have covered less than 500 miles each.

The faults I am aware of include a core plug which has wept at some point in the past but looks fine now. Also the coolant hoses require replacement and there are various minor oil leaks from gaskets in the engine bay. There are probably other minor defects but certainly nothing serious.

The car was last valued for insurance purposes at £55,000 in January 2016 by Graham Searle of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club. I have been a member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club for somewhere approaching 40 years. I am looking to sell it for £54,995 or nearest offer.

This is a great car for someone who wants a running, driving classic E-Type to enjoy immediately but to gradually improve over time.

The car is located in Northwich, Cheshire being 10 minutes’ drive from both Junction 18 and Junction 19 of the M6 motorway.
