Description

As a lifelong Volkswagen enthusiast, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Mk2 GTI—and this one has been a real pleasure to own. This is a rare, unmodified 5-door example finished in Royal Blue Metallic, kept true to how Volkswagen originally intended.
I bought the car nearly 4 years ago as a weekend project and second family car, and it’s been treated exactly as you’d expect from an enthusiast owner. During my time with it, I’ve made sure it’s been maintained properly and kept in dependable, usable condition—not just stored away. It’s been a car I can jump into at a moment’s notice and confidently set off on family road trips.
Mechanically, the car is in great form. It starts reliably every time, runs smoothly, and delivers power exactly how a Mk2 GTI should. The suspension is tight with no knocks or bangs, and after a full alignment it drives straight and true—just as it should.
Maintenance has never been skipped—it's had a service every year without fail, with additional oil changes carried out when replacing seals or other components. I understand the mileage may raise eyebrows, but I spent a long time finding the right car, and this one stood out for its condition and how well it’s been looked after. It’s a genuinely solid example that could easily continue as a usable classic or even a daily driver.
A nice piece of history comes with the car too: a Classic Car Weekly feature from October 2014, where the car was reviewed in detail at 228k miles—highlighting its strengths and giving great insight into its story.
The only minor issue to mention is an intermittent rev counter fault that’s recently appeared—I haven’t had the time to investigate, but everything else works exactly as it should.
More recently, I’ve spent time tidying the underside—cleaning, treating, and protecting the suspension components, rear axle, and refinishing the calipers back to factory silver—so it’s ready for its next owner to enjoy straight away.
It’s becoming increasingly rare to find Mk2 GTIs in this kind of original, unmodified condition. I’ll genuinely miss both working on and driving this car, but with four cars in the household, it’s time for it to go to someone who will appreciate it as much as I have.
I’m in no rush to sell—finding the right home is far more important to me than a quick sale. This car deserves an owner who understands what it is and will continue to care for it properly.
If you’re a fellow VW enthusiast or simply looking for a solid, honest Mk2 GTI—feel free to get in touch.
