Description
Stripped of every unnecessary distraction, it delivers one of the purest driving experiences ever offered with a number plate. Single-seat, open cockpit and weighing little more than half a tonne, it offers a level of connection that modern supercars, regardless of power, simply cannot replicate.
Conceived by brothers Ian and Neill Briggs after years designing vehicles for manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Bentley and Ford, the Mono wasn’t built to chase trends. It was engineered to blur the line between road car and race car, using Formula-derived technology in a package that could legally be driven to breakfast before heading straight onto a circuit.
By the time this 2018 Mono W was built, BAC had refined the concept considerably. The wider ‘W’ chassis offered improved cockpit space while retaining the extraordinary balance and precision that made the original such a landmark. Power comes from the celebrated 2.5-litre Mountune-developed four-cylinder producing 305bhp, paired with a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox operated by steering wheel-mounted pneumatic paddles. With just 580kg to move, performance is nothing short of astonishing.
Yet outright speed only tells part of the story. The steering is alive with feedback, the chassis endlessly communicative and the braking performance extraordinary thanks to optional carbon ceramic discs. It rewards commitment and precision in a way few cars ever have.
Known affectionately as ‘The Pink Panther’, this is chassis number 81 and has been cherished by just two owners from new. Its current owner has used the car exactly as intended, enjoying European road tours, track days and weekend drives, while investing heavily to ensure it remains mechanically exceptional.
Most notably, the car benefitted from an extensive engine and gearbox rebuild carried out during 2022, alongside suspension refurbishment and numerous factory upgrades. Since then it has continued to receive regular specialist servicing, leaving nothing for the next custodian to address.
In total, well over £35,000 has been invested during current ownership alone, reflecting an approach centred around preventative maintenance rather than necessity.
Accompanying the car is an outstanding history file including the original numbered build booklets, owner’s manuals, servicing documentation, specialist instruction manuals and extensive invoices that chronicle the care this remarkable Mono has received throughout its life.
Opportunities to acquire a Mono W with this level of provenance, maintenance and documentation rarely present themselves. It is a car that has been enjoyed exactly as BAC intended, while never compromising on the standard of its upkeep.
For the next owner, it represents not only one of the most exhilarating road cars ever built, but arguably one of the best-maintained examples available today.
As ever, we have a full digital file available on request, including additional images, walkaround videos, and service history scans. The car is available to view by appointment at our West London showroom.
